About Winery and Wines
At De Bacco, we are Marco and Valentina, siblings who have embraced the challenge of reviving our family’s agricultural legacy under the majestic Dolomites in the province of Belluno. Though we never imagined becoming winegrowers, the call of our steep, rugged land was irresistible. What began as a family passion has grown into a full-fledged commitment to viticulture. Our journey started in 2008 when we took over our grandfather’s small agricultural holding, which had only 2,000 square meters of vineyard at the time. Over the years, with perseverance and dedication, we have expanded to nearly 9 hectares of vineyards, and in 2011, we inaugurated our winery.
Our vineyards are nestled in Feltre, under the Dolomites, a region with a rich history of viticulture that dates back to the early 1900s. Despite the challenges faced by this area—wars, emigration, and industrialization— we have chosen to honor the tradition of winemaking in the province of Belluno. By keeping our plots small, we ensure that the breathtaking landscape remains unaltered, allowing us to produce wines that are a true expression of our unique territory. Our commitment is to reclaim what was lost and to share the distinctive wines that our beautiful land in the Dolomites can produce.
At De Bacco, our wines are a reflection of our deep respect for both local tradition and the unique terroir of the Dolomites. We began by restoring indigenous grape varieties such as Gata, Pavana, and Bianchetta, which are deeply rooted in our region's history. Alongside these local varieties, we cultivate a selection of international grape varieties, including Merlot, Pinot Noir, Teroldego, Traminer, Manzoni Bianco 6.0.13, and Chardonnay.
Our vineyards, many of which are located on steep, gravelly, and calcareous slopes in the mountain district of Feltre, are tended with meticulous care. The majority of the work is done manually, and we take pride in minimizing the use of phytosanitary treatments and completely avoiding herbicides. This hands-on approach, combined with the extreme growing conditions of our land, allows us to produce around 40,000 bottles of wine each year. These are not just any wines; they are crafted from grapes that thrive in challenging conditions, resulting in wines that are unique, distinctive, and a true testament to the biodiversity and richness of our territory.
Our focus on low yields per hectare, particularly with our still white wines, ensures that every bottle of De Bacco wine carries the essence of our land—intense, marked by character, and deeply connected to the history and future of viticulture in the Dolomites.
