Tenuta La Piccola

Winery in Lambrusco, Food Valley

About the Winery

Tenuta La Piccola is located in the heart of Emilia, nestled between the provinces of Reggio Emilia and Parma. Owned by the Fontana family since the 1960s, the estate spans 25 hectares of organically cultivated vineyards. Positioned near the banks of the Enza River, at an elevation of 105 meters above sea level, the land is perfectly suited for producing high-quality grapes. The unique climate and geological conditions in this region contribute to the exceptional quality of the wines. In the 1990s, Mr. Licinio Fontana, inspired by his travels through Burgundy, Tuscany, and Alto Adige, implemented strict production parameters aimed at creating premium wines. Though initially met with skepticism by other producers, Tenuta La Piccola has since become a reference point for those seeking to follow in Fontana’s footsteps. The estate remains committed to organic farming, not as a trend, but as a lifestyle choice that respects the environment and ensures the purity of the land.

About the Wines

At Tenuta La Piccola, we believe in letting the land speak through our wines. Each bottle is a testament to our organic farming methods and commitment to quality. Our range includes a variety of unique offerings, such as Nero di Cio, a deep, rich red, and Picol Ross, which showcases the vibrant character of Emilia's terroir. We also produce Malvasia Secca and L'Ernesto Malvasia Dolce, each highlighting the fragrant and aromatic qualities of the Malvasia grape. For those seeking something special, our sparkling wines Mes e Mes and Le Petit Rosé add a touch of elegance to any occasion. The estate’s diverse selection, cultivated with care and respect for nature, continues to set a standard for organic wine production in the region.

Fantastic experience
A fantastic experience personalized based on our tastes and curiosities.
Very passionate and friendly people who treat you to fantastic convivial moments.
We fell in love with the mascot Gaia, their very sweet little dog.
Spectacular wines explained in detail on how to appreciate them and how to best enjoy them, all accompanied by paired dishes.
We will definitely be back!!!

Magical Winetasting Experience
My best friend and I recently celebrated my 55th birthday at Tenuta La Piccola, and had a truly wonderful time! This small, independently owned estate is everything you'd want from a countryside winery in Italy, from gorgeous vine-draped stone-and-wood buildings set beside acres of vineyards, to an adorable dog and a flock of geese. Between the friendly, helpful and knowledgable Monica and the wryly funny, deeply committed winemaker, Giuseppe, we enjoyed a deep dive into the sustainably run winery's elegant Lambruscos and dynamic red and white blends, as well as an overview of winemaking history in Emilia Romagna. Don't skip the huge, delicious salumi and cheese pairing option, and know that you'll be beautifully taken care of here. We're glad we purchased a few bottles to take with us for the rest of our trip through the region, as these were some of the best wines we had in Italy!
Be sure to mention to people visiting from Parma that there's a closer train station -- the trip back was much quicker than the trip there. :)

Tasting at Tenuta la Piccola
The tasting experience was a gift.
We were welcomed by the owners and their big dog Gaia in a charming autumn setting.
The visit to the cellar and the tasting with the story of Giuseppe and his family, very interesting.
We really liked the wines we tasted. An experience we recommend.

Good experience
Wines above expectations.
Interesting tasting experience, but TOO limited to the samples and lacking a cellar tour and vineyard tour.

Traditional & Modern
The spirit of Tenuta La Piccola is a spirit that everyone should have, that of maintaining traditions but adding a modern touch without distorting what is the true Tradition of Wine Production.
The packaging as well as the very original, elegant and refined labels.
We felt pampered and spoiled with good food and excellent wines, indeed.
We absolutely recommend the following wines:
1. Lambrusco CIÒ, it has a magnificent taste.
2. JOKE, a Brut that caresses the palate without filling the mouth with useless air full of sulfites.
3. Petit ROSÉ, it's the first time I've drunk a rosé that doesn't have a strong smell of alcohol and has a delicate flavor.
Thanks to TENUTA LA PICCOLA for this experience.
