Tenute Pacelli Winery Tour + Tasting

Rate: 5 out of 5 10/1/24
If traveling down to Southern Italy be sure to stop at Tenute Pacelli! It's a quaint winery off the beaten trail that punches above its weight class. Would highly recommend the wines and the olive oil that they make onsite was a welcome surprise. Our guide was very accommodating, spoke great English, and was very passionate about his work.

DEGUSTAZIONE TENUTE PACELLI

Rate: 5 out of 5 9/1/24

About Winery and Wines

Located in the picturesque town of Malvito, in the province of Cosenza, Tenute Pacelli is a family-run winery with a deep commitment to organic and environmentally friendly practices. Founded by Francesco Pacelli and now creatively led by his wife Clara and daughters Carla and Laura, the estate spans 10 hectares, where both native and international grape varieties thrive. The Pacelli family is dedicated to producing wines that leave a lasting impression—elegant, memorable, and crafted with the utmost respect for the land.

At Tenute Pacelli, the focus is on quality over quantity, with a low-intervention approach in the vineyard, including minimal treatments, the use of cover crops, and zero-kilometer sourcing. The estate is also home to a newly renovated tasting room and a historic 18th-century hunting lodge, where guests can experience the beauty of the winery and its surroundings. Certified organic, the winery is a champion of reviving local Cosenza grape varieties while also experimenting with international favorites, making it a true gem in the Calabrian wine scene.

Tenute Pacelli offers a diverse range of wines, with a strong emphasis on red varieties. Signature labels include the Pauciuri, a Barbera and Cabernet blend aged in oak for at least six months, and Terra Rossa, made from the native Maiocco Dolce grape, offering a rich, fruity profile. The Témeso reserve combines Nero d’Avola (Calabrese) and Magliocco, while the prestigious Zio Nunù is a super reserve crafted from hand-selected Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes planted nearly 50 years ago.

Among the whites, Tenute Pacelli produces Zoe, a sparkling wine made using the classic method, and Barone Bianco, a still Riesling that is already gaining recognition for its fresh and vibrant character. The estate also produces Eos, a luscious passito wine from pure Trebbiano Toscano grapes. Each wine is a reflection of the unique terroir, with vineyards situated 350 meters above sea level.
