TerraQuilia - La Cantina

Winery in Lambrusco, Food Valley

About the Winery

Born from the love of the land and its fruits, in accordance with the environment, our cellar Terraquilia is set in Guiglia, a village located in a pristine and natural landscape.

The owner, Romano Mattioli, thought and realized his winery for all those who appreciate wine as an expression of a production philosophy rooted in the past. At about 450 m above sea level, the vineyards and the cellar are handled in full compliance with traditions, according to the seasons and to the slow natural rhythms, creating the right balance between vine and wine. Our products interpret the tradition of these lands, inherited by the first winemakers, our ancestors. Without the support of modern technology, they knew how to exploit the seasonal trend to control the fermentation process.

Our constant effort is aimed to limit as many as possible any alterations: first of all in our grapes, both during the harvest (by hand and in small cases) and during crushing (soft crushing), and of course, in every vinification phase in the cellar (for example, the gravity bottling without the use of pumps). As producers of natural wines, we are firmly convinced that it is possible to win this challenge: to give wine lovers a product, which is able to guarantee quality for the right period of time, preserving all flavors and aromas.

About the Wines

Our wine offer ranges from Lambrusco to Cabernet and Malbo Gentile, up to light white and rosé wines produced by NATURAL BOTTLE FERMENTATION. We propose also sparkling and spumante wines without the natural sediment disgorged “à la volée”. We want our wines to be an authentic expression of their terroir. Therefore we vinify directly in our cellar only the grapes coming from our estate located in Guiglia: Conca d’oro, Fratelli Bandiera, and Riva di S. Antonio. Our winery was born with a precise aim, or better, a mission: recover the old productive methods from the past, safekeeping the essential aspects and integrating them with new technologies, all this in order to guarantee the quality of our products.

Awesome
Francesco provided us with a wonderful experience at his winery. It is harvest season and they were very busy, but he took his time explaining the process in-depth. Eco-friendly and keeping to tradition his natural wines were excellent. Of course, we left with as many bottles as we could carry while traveling

Wine like it used to be
Nestled in the heart of the Modena hills, this young winery offers with its terrace an unparalleled glimpse of nature in the Emilian territory.
As soon as we arrived, Francesco, the owner of Terraquilia, welcomed us with the conviviality and welcoming spirit that only the sun kissing these lands can reflect in the smiles of the people who live and bring these places to life.
Thus begins an immersive journey into the recent history of a winemaker who has sought to recover a production of its origins, tied to the territory and nature, in a cross between tradition and innovation that yields a pure, natural, high-quality wine, far from the contamination of fads and trends.

Really interesting wines and a pleasant winery visit
Booked a last-minute visit for a Sunday that opened up. The owners were very kind and helpful.
The tour of the vineyard and the winery was very interesting, where you can clearly see the philosophy dedicated to the natural.
A delightful tasting of 5 very interesting wines (natural, yes, but extremely proper and clean) paired with a well-made platter.
Definitely an experience to recommend!

Perfect afternoon
We had a great time with Francesco. We learned a lot about the process behind how they make their wines. The purity, the simplicity and the quality ingredients make the difference. Along with the wine we had some fantastic local food to try. The location, the food and importantly the wine along with Francesco’s easy going, warm personality made for an excellent experience.

A pleasant discovery
We stopped by because we were intrigued by the ancestral method. Francesco welcomed us as if we were friends and explained the philosophy of the method with great patience and passion.
A significant bonus... We were able to taste some excellent quality wine. We will definitely be back to make more purchases.
