Acetaia Sereni, with its roots in the early twentieth century, began producing balsamic vinegar under the care of Santina, who joined the Sereni family through marriage. As a housewife, she would prepare traditional Modena meals for her large family, often using balsamic vinegar as a key condiment. To meet her family's needs, Santina produced a few liters of balsamic vinegar each year, a tradition that has since grown into a renowned family business. Today, Acetaia Sereni is managed by Pier Luigi Sereni, his wife Elisabetta, and their sons Umberto and Francesco. The family now oversees more than 1,500 casks of balsamic vinegar, aged in prized wooden barrels, and exports their exceptional product worldwide. In addition to their balsamic vinegar, the estate is home to over 1,000 olive trees, from which they produce a delicate and fruity extra-virgin olive oil, once again establishing it as a typical product of Modena. In 2012, the Sereni family expanded their operations by adding a farm holiday center, Agriturismo Acetaia Sereni, located atop a picturesque hill. Here, guests can enjoy traditional Modena dishes, all enhanced with the estate's balsamic vinegar and olive oil, alongside local wines and produce from the estate's vegetable garden. The agriturismo also offers six comfortable rooms, providing a serene and relaxing stay amidst the beautiful Modena countryside.

Tenuta Borri, managed by Andrea Pradelli, is a historic estate located in the Travo area within the Trebbia River valley. The estate, which spans around 5 hectares, has been in the Borri family for at least five generations. After the vineyards were revitalized in 2008, Andrea, an agronomist, took over full-time management, focusing on traditional, sustainable practices. The vineyards, located at altitudes between 400 and 700 meters, benefit from favorable pedoclimatic conditions and manual cultivation. The estate avoids using fertilizers and herbicides, opting instead for minimal phytosanitary treatments, and focuses on traditional winemaking methods enhanced by modern refinements. Fermentation is spontaneous, relying on indigenous yeasts, and sulfur dioxide is used sparingly. The estate prioritizes quality and environmental stewardship, consciously choosing not to pursue organic certification due to the local presence of Flavescence dorée, which necessitates the use of insecticides. The result is a collection of wines that reflect the unique terroir and dedication to craftsmanship.

Founded in 1983, Monte delle Vigne started with a small 7-hectare vineyard and a vision to revive the native grapes of Colli di Parma through sustainable practices. The winery has grown to encompass 40 hectares, producing a diverse range of wines from native varieties like Barbera and Malvasia, as well as international grapes such as Merlot, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Franc. In 1992, Monte delle Vigne introduced Nabucco, the first still red wine produced in Parma, a blend of Barbera and Merlot aged in French oak barrels. This wine quickly became a symbol of the winery and the region. A few years later, Callas, a 100% Malvasia di Candia, followed, showcasing the white grape’s mineral and crisp elegance. The winery's growth accelerated in 2003 when Paolo Pizzarotti became the major shareholder, driving expansion and international competitiveness. Innovations such as the 2006 underground cellar with geothermal technology and rainwater recovery solidified Monte delle Vigne’s commitment to eco-sustainability. This approach culminated in the 2021 harvest when the winery was officially certified organic by the ICEA. Monte delle Vigne continues to innovate, with new labels like Brusata, Il Chiuso, Ginestra, and Quattro Laghi, each telling the story of the unique terroir of Ozzano Taro and the Colli di Parma. Today, the winery blends tradition with modern viticulture, producing wines that reflect the character and history of the land.

Founded in the early 2000s, Vigna Cunial is a family-run, certified organic winery spanning approximately 30 hectares, with 15 hectares dedicated to vineyards on the picturesque hills of Parma, in the commune of Traversetolo. Committed to producing natural, organic wines, the estate follows agronomic practices that respect the microbiological balance of the soil, water, local ecosystems, and the natural rhythms of life. The vineyards, situated at elevations between 200 and 400 meters above sea level, are planted on highly calcareous, marine-origin soils that impart a unique mineral character and complexity to the wines, distinguished by pronounced saline notes. Since 2007, Vigna Cunial has been dedicated to the revival of Parma’s ancient Malvasia grape. Registered in 2018 as the only native grape variety of the Parma Province, this grape was originally known as “Malvasia odorosissima” and was later renamed “Malvasia Casalini” in honor of Mr. Casalini, a custodian of some of the oldest vines. Research shows this grape has ancient origins and is likely a descendant of the Muscat of Alexandria. "Malvasia Casalini" stands apart from other local Malvasias, yielding exceptional results in winemaking, particularly in sparkling wine production. Vigna Cunial is an active member of Vi.Te. (Vignaioli e Territori), the Natural Wine Association, reflecting its commitment to environmental stewardship and biodiversity. In addition to vineyards, the estate cultivates various heritage fruit varieties, and native Mulazzano olive trees, and preserves local biodiversity with hedgerows and broadleaf woodlands, enhancing the landscape’s natural balance.

Founded in 1890 by Remigio Medici, Medici Ermete is a historic winery with roots along the Via Emilia, a vital commercial road in Reggio Emilia. Remigio, who owned three successful taverns, established the winery to capitalize on the family vineyards located between the Via Emilia and the foothills of the Enza Valley. His son, Ermete, expanded the business, cementing the winery's reputation, and passed the legacy to his sons, Valter and Giorgio, who propelled the brand onto the global stage. The 1970s saw a "Lambrusco boom" in the United States, making it one of the first Italian wines to achieve international acclaim. However, the 1980s brought challenges with an influx of low-quality, mass-produced Lambrusco that tarnished the wine’s reputation. In 1988, the fourth generation—Alberto, Pierluigi, and later Alessandra—joined the company and spearheaded a revolution in Lambrusco production. They replanted the vineyards, reducing yields by 35% to focus on quality, a move that led to the creation of the "Concerto" in 1993, a CRU of Lambrusco Salamino. Today, Medici Ermete stands as a beacon of excellence, blending tradition with innovation, and offering visitors a chance to explore the rich history and evolving future of Lambrusco in the heart of Emilia-Romagna.

5 (2 Reviews)
Provides 1 wine tasting and winery visit from €30.00
Nestled on the hills south of Bologna, Podere Riosto stretches towards the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines along the historic Futa highway, which links Bologna with Florence. The estate is deeply rooted in the unique characteristics of its territory, marked by a sandy soil texture, sunny summers, snowy winters, and excellent vineyard exposure (South, South/East, and South West) at 350 meters above sea level. These natural conditions, combined with state-of-the-art oenological technologies and a strong commitment to tradition and environmental sustainability, produce remarkable quality and character wines. Podere Riosto boasts 24 specialist vineyards classified as Cru, covering around 16 hectares. The vineyards are arranged using espalier structures with spurred cordon or Guyot pruning systems and 3×1 plant spacing, which help maintain and amplify the grapes' sensory richness alongside low yields and hand harvesting. The main varieties cultivated under the Colli Bolognesi DOC designation include Pignoletto, Chardonnay, Barbera, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and the rare, historical Vite del Fantini. The story of Vite del Fantini is a compelling testament to passion and preservation. Discovered in 1961 by Luigi Fantini in the Pianoro area, the vine was left to the wild until Stefano Galli undertook its recovery with dedication. Working alongside agronomist Federico Curtaz, the GAL 5 Valli, and researchers from the University of Bologna, a thorough study of its genetic and morphological traits culminated in its official registration in the Italian Grapevine Register in 2009. Today, Podere Riosto honors this rediscovered legacy through two expressive wines: Vecchio Riosto and Spumante Rosé For You.

4.87 (15 Reviews)
Provides 1 wine tasting and winery visit from €25.00
Fattoria Moretto is currently run by Fausto and Fabio, the third generation of the Altariva family. The winery's origins trace back to the early 1960s when their grandfather, Antonio Altariva, moved the family from Pavullo nel Frignano to the hills of Castelvetro to start a winemaking venture under a sharecropping contract. Initially, Antonio traded Grasparossa grapes and Lambrusco in carboys. In 1971, his son Domenico, along with his wife Albertina, purchased 2.5 hectares of land, planting the family's first vineyard and establishing a cellar on the adjacent property. Domenico's passion for viticulture and the production of Lambrusco Grasparossa grew over time, a passion he passed down to his sons, Fabio and Fausto, from a young age. In 1991, the brothers, now in their twenties, decided to elevate the winery's quality by transitioning from selling bulk wine to producing and selling bottled Lambrusco di Grasparossa DOC. With the support of their parents, they built a larger cellar and formally established Fattoria Moretto, launching their first labeled bottles. Initially, all the wines were naturally fermented in the bottle. Over time, more Grasparossa vineyards were added on the Castelvetro hills, with the vineyards being cultivated using the spurred cordon and Guyot systems. These vineyards benefit from excellent ventilation, which tempers the summer heat and protects the plants from diseases. In 1995, Fausto decided to convert vineyard cultivation to the "integrated production" method, marking the first step towards organic farming. By the late 1990s, the winery adopted the "Martinotti" or "Charmat" method, in a continuous quest for cleaner and more elegant products. The older vineyards have now become central to the production of the family's flagship "cru" wines. Today, Fattoria Moretto's production is focused on expressing the unique characteristics of the Lambrusco Grasparossa territory, emphasizing quality over quantity.

Born from the love of the land and its fruits, in accordance with the environment, our cellar Terraquilia is set in Guiglia, a village located in a pristine and natural landscape. The owner, Romano Mattioli, thought and realized his winery for all those who appreciate wine as an expression of a production philosophy rooted in the past. At about 450 m above sea level, the vineyards and the cellar are handled in full compliance with traditions, according to the seasons and to the slow natural rhythms, creating the right balance between vine and wine. Our products interpret the tradition of these lands, inherited by the first winemakers, our ancestors. Without the support of modern technology, they knew how to exploit the seasonal trend to control the fermentation process. Our constant effort is aimed to limit as many as possible any alterations: first of all in our grapes, both during the harvest (by hand and in small cases) and during crushing (soft crushing), and of course, in every vinification phase in the cellar (for example, the gravity bottling without the use of pumps). As producers of natural wines, we are firmly convinced that it is possible to win this challenge: to give wine lovers a product, which is able to guarantee quality for the right period of time, preserving all flavors and aromas.
