Weingut Wieserhof
About the Winery
Around 30 years ago, the parents of the current owner decided to purchase an orchard, laying the foundation for Wieserhof.
Wieserhof falls under the category of “masi chiusi” (closed farmstead), which doesn’t mean that no one can enter the farm. A “maso chiuso” is a unique feature of South Tyrol and refers to the indivisibility of family property. This prevents the increasing fragmentation of already small agricultural lands and ensures sustainable profitability. The so-called farm law, which regulates the “maso chiuso,” has its origins in the Middle Ages and was finally established in 1770 in the Theresian patent by Empress Maria Theresa.
For about 20 years, Wieserhof has been run by the second generation: Hubert, his wife Silvia, and their two daughters, Maya and Emma. Over the years, the idea for the la traversara project has gradually developed.
About the Wines
PINOT BIANCO Alto Adige D.O.C.
The Pinot Blanc variety has evolved into the leading white variety in South Tyrol and is now the most important white grape in the region. Straw yellow color with green highlights. On the nose, it has pleasant hints of fresh citrus fruit with fine notes of elderflower. On the palate, it is lively, refreshing, and fruity.
The Pinot Blanc Alto Adige DOC “la traversara” is produced exclusively at the Wieserhof farm in Foiana at 600 meters above sea level. The growing area is characterized by a cool climate with large temperature fluctuations between day and night before the grape harvest.
The must ferments in temperature-controlled steel tanks. The wine then matures for several months on the lees, followed by biological acid reduction.
PINOT NERO Alto Adige D.O.C.
Pinot Noir is sometimes described as the world’s finest and most noble red wine variety. It is challenging to cultivate, and its production requires the utmost care both in the vineyard and in the winery. Ruby red color with varied aromas of red berries and cherries, complemented by spicy notes. Elegant medium body with a fine spiced finish.
Vineyards between Oltradige and Pinzon (350–500 meters above sea level) are characterized by a cool climate with large temperature fluctuations between day and night before the harvest.
