Organic Wine Tasting with Local Foods at Il Monte Caro in Valpolicella
Here is what's in store for you
Your tasting takes place on a hillside above Mezzane di Sotto, on the eastern edge of Valpolicella. Emanuela or Giorgio, the new generation of the family that has been running the estate since 1986, will welcome you to the winery's wide porch, with their vineyards dropping away below.
All the wines are organic, grown on the mountain the family lives on and farms. The tasting includes three glasses, moving from fresh to structured.
You'll start with your choice of Il Biondo, the estate's white IGT, or Carosè, its rosé IGT.
The second glass is Valpolicella DOC, the valley's defining wine, built from Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella.
For the final glass, you can choose between the Valpolicella DOC Superiore or the Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG, made from grapes dried for months before pressing.
Alongside the wines, you'll be served a platter of local mountain food. The cheeses, both goat's and cow's milk, come from small producers in the Lessinia highlands, while the cured meats are Veronese classics like salame or soppressa. The estate's approach is gentle, keeping the fruit and soil character alive in every glass.
