Discover the different nuances of the ciliegiolo grape with this wine experience at Sassotondo Organic Winery in Maremma.
Since 1990, we have been growing ciliegiolo in Pitigliano and since 1997 we have been vinifying it with the help of our friend and winemaker Attilio Pagli. From this long and fruitful collaboration, accomplice also to an incredible affinity of the vine for these high volcanic tuff lands, our ciliegiolo wines, vinified and aged in different ways, were born.
Your experience will begin by visiting the underground cellar, after which we will explain our choices in ecological vineyard management. After the tour, you will have the opportunity to taste five wines made from ciliegiolo grapes, with explanations of their different winemaking and aging techniques: steel, wood, and terracotta. The wines to be tasted will be Lady Marmalade (rosé ciliegiolo for “decisive” ladies), Sassotondo Rosso (our daily classic ciliegiolo), Poggio Pinzo (ciliegiolo with long maceration in terracotta), Monte Calvo (ciliegiolo to which a part of the grape that has not been destemmed gives particular finesse), and San Lorenzo (our flagship wine, old vineyard, iconic). The wines will be paired with samples of Flamigni's savory pastries, an innovative project to enhance the meaning of a good food pairing.
The Sassotondo company has been certified organic since 1994, we are part of the VolcanicWines circuit and members of FIVI - Vignaioli Indipendenti. When you come to visit us be prepared for a trip to the countryside, immersed in the nature of the rural Tuscan Tuscia! Everything revolves around the wines and the vineyard, so we recommend comfortable clothing for a pleasant walk. The tasting experience is held, depending on weather conditions, under our patio or in the comfortable air-conditioned tasting room.
