Full-Day Valpolicella Tour from Verona with Lunch & Amarone Tasting
Here is what's in store for you
Your full-day tour begins in Verona, where you'll meet your local guide and wine expert. A short drive takes you into the Valpolicella region, one of Italy's most noted wine-producing areas, celebrated for its Amarone, Ripasso, and sweet Recioto wines. The journey follows scenic country roads through vineyards and small villages to the first of two selected family-run wineries.
At each estate, you'll be welcomed by the producers or their hospitality team for a tour of the production and aging areas. You'll learn about the different stages of the winemaking process, from fermentation to barrel aging, with a special focus on the distinctive techniques used to create Amarone. The tastings take place in a dedicated tasting room or an atmospheric underground barrel cellar.
Across the two visits, you will taste a total of 8 wines, exploring different expressions of the territory. The selection includes Valpolicella Classico, Valpolicella Superiore, Ripasso, and multiple vintages of Amarone. At one of the wineries, you will also taste locally produced extra virgin olive oil.
The day includes a traditional lunch at the second winery. You'll start with a board of local cured meats like Sopressa and cheeses such as Monte Veronese, followed by a seasonal pasta dish like tortellini or gnocchi. The meal concludes with sbrisolona, a traditional almond cake, and dark chocolate, all accompanied by the estate's wines. After a day dedicated to the food and wine of Valpolicella, you will be driven back to Verona.

A Perfect Day in Valpolicella: Exceptional Wines, Wonderful Company, and an Outstanding Guide
The true star of the day, however, was our guide, Sara, with *Your Local Guide SNC*. A self-professed Italian wine sommelier, Sara was absolutely wonderful. She was charming, witty, engaging, and highly responsive to every question we asked. Her excellent command of English made the tour easy to follow, and she struck the perfect balance between being personable and informative without ever becoming socially overwhelming. Her passion for Italian wines and the Valpolicella region was evident throughout the day.
The wineries we visited were stunning, each offering its own unique character and breathtaking surroundings. The wine tastings were outstanding, with the Amarone selections being particularly memorable. Every wine we sampled was simply divine. Lunch at the Locanda was another highlight, featuring delicious regional cuisine that paired beautifully with the wines.
We left with a much deeper appreciation of Valpolicella wines and would enthusiastically recommend this tour to anyone visiting Verona.
The Mone Santoccio Valpolicella Classico Superiore, Amarone Classico Riserva, and Ripasso were our favorites. We bought several bottles!
