Masterclass Wine Tasting at Poggio di Bortolone
Here is what's in store for you
Welcome to the Azienda Agricola Poggio di Bortolone, founded by the Cosenza family at the end of the eighteenth century, shortly after Sicily’s transition out of feudalism and its annexation to mainland Italy.
Since then, the estate has been passed down from father to son, and today Pierluigi Cosenza, son of Ignazio, is the current owner and manager of Poggio di Bortolone. Pierluigi will personally welcome you to the estate for a wonderful wine-tasting experience!
Located just 25 minutes from the city of Ragusa, this historic winery is the perfect place to discover the true secrets of authentic Sicilian wines. The vineyards, which cover approximately 15 hectares, are surrounded by higher ground and sheltered by ridges to make optimal use of the warm Sicilian sun.
The principal grape varieties cultivated here are Nero d'Avola, Frappato, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot, but the estate also grows ancient varieties such as Grosso Nero, which has become almost extinct.
During this wine-tasting experience, you’ll enjoy a guided tour of the estate’s vineyards and olive groves, with special attention given to the wildlife and wild flora of southeastern Sicily. You will then visit the winery to discover the secrets of the estate’s winemaking process before tasting four wines — one white, one rosé, and two reds.
A perfect moment to discover the soul of this amazing region!
