The Wine Tasting Atelier in Bologna: The Legend of Pliny the Elder
Here is what's in store for you
In an ancient tavern in Bologna’s historic Jewish Ghetto, oenologist Giancarlo will welcome you to a tasting workshop combining wine, history, and local legends. He will introduce you to the basics of sensory analysis and explain how native grape varieties express themselves through different terroirs and winemaking methods.
The core of the experience is a tasting of three wines from the Bologna hills:
- Sparkling Pignoletto, a fresh local white wine with lively bubbles
- Albana, a distinctive white wine made from the grape variety native to Emilia-Romagna
- Barbera, a vibrant red wine known for its bright acidity and juicy fruit character.
These are served with a platter of local specialties, including Bologna mortadella and Parma ham. Giancarlo will share popular legends about the origins of these wines, comparing them with modern genetic analysis.
The workshop concludes with a game. You will be served a fourth mystery glass of wine. If you can guess the grape variety, you will win a dinner offered by InCantina!
InCantina works closely with the Enoteca Regionale dell’Emilia-Romagna, sharing the same mission: to introduce visitors to the region’s extraordinary food and wine heritage.
At the end of the tasting, you will have the opportunity to purchase any of the wines you enjoyed.
