Tenuta Ballerio is a 12-hectare estate located on the hills of Santa Maria della Versa, in the heart of the Oltrepò Pavese region, known as the capital of Spumante, Santa Maria della Versa offers ideal limestone-rich soil for growing noble Pinot Nero grapes. Located in the heart of the Oltrepò Pavese region, Azienda Vitivinicola Manuelina has a rich history that began in the early 20th century. Founded by Luigi Achilli and his brother Guido, the winery initially focused on producing wine for family and friends before expanding into commercial production. As demand grew, the winery became a popular destination for locals seeking high-quality wines, especially the well-known bulk wines of the time. Over the decades, the winery has evolved, driven by the passion and dedication of the Achilli family. Today, under the guidance of Luigi’s sons, Paolo and Antonio, the winery has been modernized to meet the needs of contemporary wine lovers while maintaining its strong family heritage. Recently rebranded as Azienda Vitivinicola Manuelina to honor the family’s legacy and avoid confusion with other wineries in the area, the estate now spans 24 hectares of vineyards. The family’s commitment to quality and customer satisfaction remains at the heart of everything they do, ensuring that each bottle reflects the best of the Oltrepò Pavese region.

The heart of Calatroni’s winemaking philosophy can be summed up in three words: tradition, experience, and a deep passion for quality. Founded in 1964, Azienda Agricola Calatroni began when Luigi Calatroni—faced with the end of a sharecropping contract—made the bold decision to purchase the vineyard he once worked on. From that moment, a legacy was born. Under the dedicated stewardship of Fausto and Marisa Calatroni, the winery grew and evolved, laying a strong foundation for future generations. Today, the third generation of the Calatroni family, brothers Cristian (37) and Stefano (32), bring a dynamic combination of tradition and innovation to the estate. With professionalism and passion, they have introduced cutting-edge enological and agronomic techniques, elevating the winery’s potential while staying true to its roots. Located in Montecalvo Versiggia, between 180 and 320 meters above sea level, the estate’s vineyards benefit from ideal conditions for cultivating a wide range of grape varieties. Continuous technical refinement and a commitment to excellence have enabled Calatroni to fully harness the richness of its land. Torti Winery is situated amongst the Oltrepò Pavese hills, historical area of wines and vineyards: a hilly terroir of lime, marl and clay with an ideal climate for grape cultivation, blessed with ascending Ligurian breezes, ventilated, cool summers, harsh and dry winters, with embracing mists from the Padanian Plain. The main town is Pavia, a charming city of history and arte. A population of friendly, hardworking, genuine people. A fertile area of culture and passion. Here grapes have been cultivated for more than 30.000 years. Strabone (60 BC – 20 AC) wrote that the abundances of wine in the Oltrepò was witnessed by wooden barrels, bigger than houses. During the middle ages, castles were built in the area and the quality of the wine started to become more and more appreciated. The Oltrepò Pavese (The Old Piedmont) is smothered in vineyards, furrowed with streams and rivlets, where villages, churches and hamlets appear amongst the hills displaying a dancing array of colours, geographical features comparable only to those of Champagne and Burgundy. 45° Parallel ‘half way between the North Pole and the Equator’ as professed along the roads leading to the scenic hills. Here the harvest lasts longer than any other area of Italy, beginning with Pinot Nero for sparkling, then the red grapes such as Barbera and Croatina (the grapes used for the popular Bonarda). Pinot Nero, which is used for sparkling and also to produce important red wines for aging, plays the leading role.
