About Winery and Wines

Azienda Agricola Castello di Corbara is a historic estate in the heart of Umbria, nestled between Orvieto and Todi, and overlooking Lake Corbara. With roots tracing back to Roman times, the estate flourished during the Middle Ages as a fief of the Counts of Montemarte. Today, the estate spans over 1,200 hectares, with 100 hectares devoted to vineyards. Acquired by the Patrizi family in 1997, the estate aims to combine tradition with modern practices, focusing on local grape varieties, environmentally sustainable viticulture, and expanding its presence in international markets.

The vineyards at Castello di Corbara are located between 100 and 350 meters above sea level, where they benefit from a variety of soil types and unique microclimates, allowing the winery to produce a diverse range of high-quality wines. The estate emphasizes re-evaluating native grape varieties that have been growing in the region for over a century, creating wines that are intimately linked to the land’s history and character.

Since its acquisition by the Patrizi family, Castello di Corbara has not only focused on enhancing its domestic production but also on exploring foreign markets. By forming strategic partnerships with dedicated distributors, the estate aims to promote its authentic wines globally, bringing a taste of Umbria’s rich winemaking heritage to new international audiences.

Red Wines: Castello di Corbara, located in the DOC Lago di Corbara area, specializes in Sangiovese, having rediscovered a historical clone on the estate in 2003, which thrives in the microclimate. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon also flourish here, offering wines that reflect the distinct characteristics of the estate's soils.

White Wines: In the DOC Orvieto area, the estate produces Orvieto Classico, with a standout Grechetto variety. This Grechetto clone, known for its strong personality, mirrors the unique characteristics of the soil in which it grows.
