About Winery and Wines

Situated in the heart of Umbria, the estate Castello di Corbara has re-discovered its historical location together with its traditions. The winery is located between Orvieto and Todi and overlooks the lake of Corbara. The Castello di Corbara estate has ancient origins and a rich and fascinating history, since Roman times, and reached its maximum splendour in the Middle Ages when it was the fief of the Counts of
Montemarte. Turning to more recent history and current strengths, for over fifty years the Castello di Corbara can boast of a wine-growing heritage of about 100 hectares in a context of over 1200 hectares of land, enclosed in a single property.
The vineyards were planted in order to take advantages of the microclimate of the individual plots of land, located between 100 and 350 m a.s.l., and to make the most of the wide variety of soil types that exist in the area.
The constant monitoring of the microclimate of the vineyards allows us to operate in full respect of the environment and to guarantee the production of wines of the utmost genuineness. The Patrizi family, with great entrepreneurial experience, acquired in 1997 Castello di Corbara, with the ambitious purpose of relaunch the estate and its production.

The vast variety of grape vines is an essential key factor that contribute to the production of genuine high-quality wines. Undoubtedly, one of the principal objectives which the estate aims at is to re-evaluate the autochthonous species of grapes that have been growing here for over a century, by launching on the market wines intimately linked to their territory of origin.
From the very beginning, Castello di Corbara has looked carefully at foreign markets with the aim of promoting its products abroad.
Through direct relations with dedicated distributors the estate wants to enhance its presence in foreign countries and create new partnership in unexplored markets.

RED WINES
Among the reds, (the estate is entirely located in the DOC Lago di Corbara area) the estate has decided to promote the production of Sangiovese. A historical clone of this latter was discovered on the estate and reproduced in spring 2003 and re-implanted in an area whose
microclimate was the best for the species.
Also the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon varieties have given excellent results, as they have always been grown on the lands of the estate, they are perfectly accustomed to the soils dedicated to them, this means they express the peculiarities of their species at their best.

WHITE WINES
As for the whites, since the estate is located in one of the oldest areas of DOC Orvieto, it can therefore proudly produce and label its whites as Orvieto Classico. Among its whites it is worth mentioning an interesting clone of Grechetto, standing out because of its strong and original personality: faithful mirror of the soils that have been its optimal dwelling for decades. Each new implantation is carried out only after very scrupulous and careful technical evaluation.
