AZIENDA AGRICOLA TOSI

Winery in Oltrepò Pavese

About the Winery

The Tosi Family Winery is located in Montescano, a town in the first hills of Oltrepò Pavese, between Stradella and Santa Maria della Versa. Wine production first started in the ’60s with siblings, Piero and Agostino, buying small lots of land. Through hard work and dedication, they started a new adventure in the wine and agricultural business.

Their passion, commitment, and love for their land will soon prove to be a source of satisfaction. The winery has been managed by Agostino’s sons, Massimo and Giuseppe for the past twenty years. They work with the same passion as their father did and are personally involved in the management of the vineyards and all the enological operations from bottling to sales.

About the Wines

The vineyards consist of 15 ha, mostly located in the municipality of Montù Beccaria and some in the nearby hills of Montescano and Castana. The main varietals cultivated are Croatina, Pinot Nero (50% of the total surface), White Riesling, WelschRiesling, and Barbera (30% of the total surface). The rest consists of Malvasia Bianca di Candia, Moscato, and some local varietals like Vespolina and Uva Rara. Croatina is a red grape local variety with a high content of polyphenols (natural antioxidants), in particular tannins. This grape is used to make for an easy-drinking wine like Bonarda dell’Oltrepò Pavese and also to make excellent, first-rate wines to be aged for a long period, like Rosso Oltrepò and Buttafuoco.

Pinot Noir is a red grape that produces wonderful wines but at the same time is very difficult to grow and to vinify. In Oltrepò Pavese it is either used to make very smooth, ruby red, red wines, with hints of rose flowers and wild berries or to make white base sparkling wines. Oltrepò Pavese is the third most important area in the world for the cultivation of this important grape. We focus a lot of our attention on this varietal through research and experimental cloning. Pinot Noir is considered by most wine experts and critics worldwide, to be the noblest wine. The Welsch Riesling is a white grape with a medium yield. The wine obtained is straw yellow with greenish reflections, fruity, and slightly mineral. It is often used for sparkling wines. The Whi

Last-minute tasting among friends
I was looking for a wine tasting in Oltrepò. I was looking for something specific, though, so I was aiming for a Pinot nero winery.
This winery allowed me to book with extraordinary speed and simplicity, with just a few days' notice, paying online.
For a fair price we were able to taste excellent wines, accompanied by local cured meats, everything was truly delicious. The producer, who was very kind, told us about the different wines, their production, the peculiarities of the production and the soils, how they impact the wine and more.
Everything was truly very nice.

A winery to recommend, a very positive experience!
A truly interesting Pinot Noir tasting, excellent wines and a family atmosphere.
The owner introduced us to their world with knowledge and precision, in a decidedly informal and hospitable atmosphere!
Also interesting was his musical culture paired with the wines they produce and appetizers with top-quality ingredients!
We will be back!

Pleasant discovery
I was at the Tosi Farm with a group of friends, the tasting was perfect in many ways, besides the excellent wine, everything was accompanied by carefully selected cured meats (and cheeses for one of us, because she is a vegetarian), the staff proved to be friendly and very nice, it's clear that what drives the whole business is above all the passion for good wine and for making people feel good. Highly recommended experience.

Excellent tasting, friendly and knowledgeable owners
Excellent wines and tasting: a nice chat about the wines offered, exhaustive answers to all questions, friendly, kind, very down-to-earth and knowledgeable owners. The accompaniments were also abundant. Moreover, we were a large group, but the management and organization were excellent.

Hospitable
A wonderful tasting of 4 Pinot Noirs. The owner, Giuseppe, explained everything to us with passion and friendliness. The tasting room was very cozy with the fireplace, wooden tables and the food paired with the tasting of each glass was perfect. We will definitely come back.
