About Winery and Wines

Durin Winery has deep roots in the Ligurian tradition, tracing its origins back to the late 19th century when Isidoro Basso first began cultivating a small plot of land in the Arroscia Valley. Known locally as "Isidurin" (little Isidoro), he planted the seeds of what would become a thriving family business in the picturesque municipality of Ortovero. His legacy was carried on by his son, Angelo, who planted the first vines in the 1920s after his military service. Angelo's dedication to building up the family business spanned nearly a century, and today, his son Antonio represents the third generation of Basso winegrowers.

Our vineyards, spread across 16.5 hectares in five municipalities—Ortovero, Ranzo, Onzo, Garlenda, and Rialto—embody the spirit of Ligurian viticulture. They capture the essence of the region with their dramatic landscapes and breathtaking views. Despite the steep and challenging terrain that defines much of Liguria, including the Arroscia Valley, we continue to cultivate our vineyards with passion and dedication, preserving the heritage of our land and the family legacy.

Durin's vineyards are a symbol of Ligurian viticulture, where the landscape and the sea breeze converge to create wines that are truly unique. Covering 16.5 hectares across five municipalities, including the largest 7-hectare vineyard in Onzo, our vineyards produce wines that reflect the distinct character of Liguria. The steep, terraced hillsides may present challenges for cultivation, but they also provide ideal conditions for growing grape varieties that are rich in flavor and complexity.

Our wines capture the essence of the Ligurian coastline, combining the region's history and tradition with modern viticulture. From crisp, mineral-driven whites to complex reds, each bottle embodies the rugged beauty and dedication that have shaped Durin's legacy for over a century. We invite you to discover the true taste of Liguria in every glass.
