3 Nice little visit to a vineyard in a village (Marta)Our little tour at Bisson was interesting although some of us were hoping to see the actual grapes or at least to go outside during the tour. The tour focused on telling how they produce their special sparkling wine although unfortunately it was not included in the tasting. The tasting menu was good and especially the last wine gave us goosebumps. However, we didn’t get a choice between 3 platters but they just brought us bread and olives which we wouldn’t have chosen because one of us needs gluten free options which are always packed in plastic bags. The service was perfect though and when we asked for some cheese and ham they prepared an extra plate for us (for extra price). The essential thing was that there was no time limit because it did take us some time to finish all the 5x12cl classes. We also brought their famous sparkling wine which was unfortunately too sweet for our taste. This winery ended up being easy to reach by train from Genova although it would have been nice if the address would have been included on Winedering website (there’s only a bad map and the address only shows when clicking it open on google map) or if there would have been instructions on how to get there. We tried contacting the winery about it, we got a reply in Italian. Fortunately at the end when we found the address on google map the application also gave the very needed instructions on how to get there.

5 Wine tasting with wine yard walk (Tiziana)We’ve been looking for the winery experience offers for few days already when found the Azienda Agricola Saglietto online, it wasn’t the easiest to find but the website and reservation process were really easy to follow. The day before the experience we’ve been contacted by Monica with all the details which was really useful and helped us to get there on time. Because of the event in the village we had an issue with public parking availability which was quickly resolved by the hosts who made a private parking spot available to us after calling them. First we had a walk across the wine yard and olive trees garden where Monica told us about the history of the place, growing and processing of the grapes and olives and the specific varieties which are growing there and answered all our questions. Then we’ve moved to the tasting garden which is a beautiful spot on the side of the mountain with a breathtaking view on the sea. We’ve picked option with 4 wines and olive tasting and therefore been taken through the olive tasting first to then move to the wines, first the younger ones and then two different years of the Barba Ninin. The olive tasting was really interesting and insightful and as we’re not experienced in such events all the provided explanation and directions were much appreciated, then we’ve moved to the wines and we’ve been able to experience the differences coming from different grapes varieties, it was also very interesting to see how the time is impacting the taste of the older wine. Additionally all that was accompanied by the delicious snacks with local products (delicious parmigiano reggiano). My partner is not the great wine lover but he was enjoying the whole experience as well as I did. The wine was very good (portions are quite big so take your time if driving), we’ve tried the best olives we’ve ever ate and experienced the olive oil like we never before. Just next to the garden there is a place where you can buy the wine, olives and olive oil which is very convenient and of course we’ve bought something to enjoy at home. We’ve had occasion to meet the owners as well who were polite and had interesting conversation about the wine they produce. To conclude we’ve really enjoyed the experience and the products, the atmosphere was pleasant, views beautiful and if there will be an option to see the process of wine and olive oil making live we would be happy to come back!

4 Wonderful English-speaking host (Lorenzo)Very quaint wine tasting; felt very personalized and genuine. I loved that it wasn’t an enormous business and it felt like we were stepping into the family’s lifestyle, not a large-scale industrial winery. The host spoke very clearly in English and was able to answer all questions clearly in English as well. Accompanying snacks were delicious and helped bring out flavor of wines.

5 Perfect evening! (Giulia)We had a really great experience at Dell’ Erba with Giulia and her family and will definitely go back there. We could taste three of their excellent white wines accompanied by plenty of bread and dips, formaggi and salumi. Everything was very delicious and the food locally sourced. After the tasting we got a small tour around the vineyard with some more interesting insights into their winemaking process and philosophy. We felt their passion for winemaking and sharing that with their guests in every detail! Thank you for that special evening!

Liguria: Good to know

What visit in Liguria?

The Italian region of Liguria is the perfect destination for Wine Lovers who want to combine a trip to Italy's seaside with an immersive experience into the country's winemaking traditions. Here you will have the opportunity to visit some family-run wineries and enjoy memorable wine tastings while overlooking the Mediterranean sea. Liguria's Riviera is characterized by a jagged coastline where beautiful cliffs alternate to narrow pebble beaches and characteristic sea villages. The Riviera is divided into two sides: the Riviera di Levante (Coast of the Rising Sun) and the Riviera di Ponente (Coast of the Setting Sun).

The proximity to the sea and the peculiar landscape that characterize Liguria, where vines are grown on steep cliffs exposed to the sea breeze, have an important influence on the wine produced in this area. For this reason, during your wine tastings in Liguria, you will most likely taste wines that share a particular salinity, hard to find in wines produced elsewhere. Due to the geographical configuration of the territory, which imposes to carry out most of the work by hand and doesn't allow extensive cultivation, here you will visit wineries that focus on small-scale, high-quality production. Liguria currently boasts eight DOC and four IGT appellations that stand out for their originality.

Which food to taste in Liguria?

Within Liguria's small territory, divided between the Apennine hills and the Riviera coastline, you will be able to find a multitude of typical dishes that characterize this region's cuisine, with ingredients ranging from fish to legumes to sheep cheeses and meat. Some of the Ligurian dishes you should look for between a wine tasting and a winery visit are Focaccia Genovese, Focaccia di Recco, Farinata, Panissa, Trofie al pesto, Pansoti with walnut sauce, Brandacujùn, Baci di Alassio.

Which wines to taste in Liguria?

Wine production in Liguria is concentrated on the narrow coastal strip of land, as the hinterland is mainly characterized by large mountainous areas. During your wine tastings in Liguria, you will certainly taste wine made from Vermentino, the most widespread white grape in the region. Other common white grape varieties are Pigato, Bosco and Albarola. The production of black grape varieties in Liguria is mainly concentrated in the western part of the region, and the most cultivated varieties are Rossese, Ormeasco (Dolcetto), Barbera and Ciliegiolo.

Which is the best season to visit Liguria?

If you're looking for a way to combine wine tastings, visits to small-scale wineries and a weekend by the sea, then Liguria is the place for you. Thanks to its mild climate throughout the seasons, Liguria is a popular destination to visit all year round. Summers are ideal to enjoy its stony beaches and turquoise sea, while spring and autumn are popular amongst travelers that prefer going for a hike in the hinterland or exploring the region's coastal villages while less crowded.

What things to do in Liguria?

During your trip to the Ligurian Riviera, you will have the chance to taste some unique wines and visit many of the region's artisanal wineries. Between wine tours, we recommend visiting some of Liguria's highlights, such as: Cinque Terre, Riviera dei Fiori, Riviera delle Palme, Sanremo, Camogli, Portofino and Santa Margherita Ligure, Sestri Levante and the Golfo dei Poeti.
