Bodegas Bruneo
About the Winery
Bruneo Winery, located in Fermoselle, Zamora, is nestled in the heart of the Arribes del Duero Natural Park. Since 2016, Bruneo has been dedicated to reviving rare and native grape varieties such as Bruñal, Juan García, and Malvasía de Arribes, grown on century-old vines aged between 70 and 120 years, on sunlit terraces with granite soils.
In 2019, the historic winery was restored according to principles of Cultural and Artistic Heritage Conservation. Upon entering, visitors are struck by the height of the first chamber, where the hand-carved caves bear marks of primitive tools—evidence of over 500 years of history. The semicircular arches, built from granite without mortar, recall Roman-style structures. During the restoration, an inverted Hanukkah (Jewish candelabrum) was discovered carved into a stone at the entrance. It features nine semicircular branches and a base stemming from the central arm, symbolically supported by two cross-shaped signs.
The winery maintains a constant temperature of 14°C and optimal humidity for aging wines in French oak barrels. Bruneo produces exclusive wines using traditional methods and ecological farming practices, aiming to highlight the distinctiveness and character of the region through artisanal production and very limited editions.
About the Wines
Bruneo produces three distinctive wines in the heart of the Arribes del Duero Natural Park, using native grape varieties grown on century-old vines rooted in granite soils. The winery combines tradition, craftsmanship, and environmental respect to create very limited editions that express the unique character of the region.
Bruneo Bruñal: A barrel-aged red wine made from the rare and precious Bruñal variety. It stands out for its aromatic intensity, with deep notes of ripe fruit, and a well-balanced structure of acidity and tannins. This is a robust wine with excellent aging potential—perfect for those who appreciate reds with strong personality.
Bruneo Juan García: A red wine crafted from the native Juan García variety, typical of the Arribes region. It shows a cherry-red color with violet hues and a complex nose featuring forest fruits, toasted bread, and vanilla. On the palate, it is fresh with lively acidity, smooth tannins, and mineral and licorice notes that add depth and character.
Bruneo Malvasía de Arribes: A light and refreshing white wine made from Malvasía grapes grown on sun-drenched terraces. It displays a bright lemon-yellow color with golden reflections, offering fruity and citrus aromas on the nose. On the palate, it is vibrant and slightly saline, with a silky and persistent finish that makes it a great match for food.
All Bruneo wines are handcrafted using traditional methods and organic farming practices, aiming to preserve the identity of the terroir and the authenticity of each grape variety.
