Bosque de Matanos

Bosque de Matasnos is a winery located in one of the highest areas of the Ribera del Duero D.O.P., at 950 meters above sea level, in a forest environment of great ecological value that we have regenerated through years of work and research.

The altitude, the harsh climate, and the well-suited soils shape the distinctive character of our wines and define the way we work: with respect, optimism, and determination. We are set within a 220-hectare woodland that we share with our animals. Pigs, horses, donkeys, cows, sheep, bees, and five wonderful dogs live alongside us.

What makes us unique is our commitment to sustainability. We didn’t transition toward it—we were born this way, out of conviction, to ensure clean soils and pure air. Proof of this is that we are the most sustainable winery in Europe. We are not connected to the public water or energy supply, so we generate everything on-site.

Visiting us is a one-of-a-kind journey to a landscape unlike anything you’ve seen before, just five minutes from the picturesque village of Peñaranda de Duero, where every house and street tells the story of the region.

We are part of the Ribera del Duero Denomination of Origin, which allows a maximum yield of 7,000 kg per hectare. Even so, we never produce more than 3,500 kg. Lower yields mean higher quality. We live with the region’s harsh climate: hot summers, frequent frosts, temperature swings of up to 20°C, and irregular rainfall. These conditions require us to work each vine with the greatest care, intelligence, and dedication. The result is wines with a distinct identity, elegantly reflecting the natural environment from which they are born.

We produce white, red, and rosé, and in our cellar, we like to keep a selection of wines from other wineries we admire for the quality of their work. All of our wines see oak, and we work mostly with blends that are unique in the region. Our iconic wine is “Etiqueta Blanca,” crafted from a blend of Tempranillo, Merlot, and Malbec—fruit, silk, and authenticity. We bottle a landscape so that every time you taste it, you’re magically transported to the highlands of Ribera del Duero.

Our white wines won’t leave you indifferent. Lees contact and oak aging turn them into serious, gastronomic whites that can handle complex pairings without losing their freshness. We also work with blended varieties such as Chardonnay, Verdejo, Viognier, and of course, the local Albillo Mayor.
