Cantina Fontechiara
About the Winery
Inspired by a deep love for the land, the family behind Cantina Fontechiara decided to return to their roots, reviving the winemaking tradition passed down through generations. With guidance from expert oenologists and local viticulturists, the vineyards were replanted with indigenous grape varieties, marking the beginning of a unique and challenging journey, closely aligned with nature’s rhythms.
The name "Fontechiara" is a tribute to Chiara and the natural water spring, or "fonte," found on the property by a water diviner. The vineyard is farmed using natural methods, based on the belief that wine made without chemicals is better for both the planet and the wine drinker. This approach not only preserves the health of the soil and plants but also ensures a purer product, free from harmful residues.
About the Wines
Fontechiara produces high-quality, natural wines under the DOC Colline Novaresi designation, including Nebbiolo, Vespolina, and Rosato. The vineyards are cultivated with respect for the environment and a focus on promoting biodiversity. The vines thrive in living soil, rich with organisms like worms and beneficial bacteria, which contribute to the health of the land.
Each vine is carefully tended throughout the growing season, with grape thinning in the summer to manage yields and ensure higher-quality fruit. Harvesting is done entirely by hand, with all grapes picked on the same day. After harvesting, the grapes are meticulously selected by sight and immediately crushed to prevent unwanted fermentation.
The fermentation process is closely monitored daily to preserve the quality and character of the wine. Fontechiara deliberately produces a limited number of bottles each year, adhering to strict quality control throughout the production chain. Additionally, as no animal-derived ingredients are used during vinification, the wines are vegan-certified, making them a natural, ethical choice for wine enthusiasts.

A tasting to do again
Visit to Fontanachiara
You can see that the person who assisted us during the visit is passionate about what he does and what he has created.
The prices of the wines they offer are a little high.
Visit to Fontechiara
There are various tasting packages, depending on how many wines you want to taste, accompanied by local products. Wines explained very well by the owner. Besides the wines, you can also find products made with the waste from the must. A very nice idea for a different kind of outing.
I recommend the 3-wine tasting.
Tasting
A hidden gem in Piedmont
The highlight of our stay was the wine tasting. It was both educational and engaging, with delicious local wines accompanied by generous and tasty snacks. In the morning, we were treated to a wonderful breakfast with fresh, high-quality products.
We only wish we could have stayed longer. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an authentic and relaxing wine country experience.
We would have loved a simple dinner option, but they were very helpful and arranged reserveration nearby.
Small winery, big character
Among the bottles offered, I also chose to buy an ancestral method wine, which I haven't tasted yet but which shows great promise. What particularly struck me was also the presence of a craft beer made with grape pomace, really interesting for those who love the crossover between the brewing and winemaking worlds.
The atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and authentic: you can feel the passion and pride for their work. A recommended stop for those who want to have a genuine experience in the heart of the region.
Wine tasting
The signs as to where to park could be clearer on the entry.
Very nice tasting
The cost of the wines is a bit high considering the direct purchase at the winery, probably due to the fact that the winery does not have a high annual production. In any case, the cost made us refrain from buying products to take home.
Pleasant afternoon
