About Winery and Wines
Cantina Ratti has been a pivotal name in Barolo winemaking since Renato Ratti founded the estate in the 1960s. After studying winemaking in Alba and gaining international experience, Renato returned to Piedmont to redefine Barolo’s production, implementing modern techniques that improved the wine's elegance and longevity. His innovations, including the creation of the Marcenasco Barolo and the design of the Albeisa bottle, cemented his influence. Today, under the leadership of his son Pietro, the winery continues to uphold its legacy, blending tradition, sustainability, and innovation in its wines.
In 1965, Renato Ratti purchased the first Barolo Marcenasco® vineyard in La Morra, spanning about two Piedmontese "days." Over time, Cantina Ratti grew to cover 35 hectares, including properties in La Morra, Mango, and Costigliole d'Asti, each with diverse soils and microclimates, but all cultivated with a deep respect for the environment.
The Ratti Winery, renovated in 2005, is seamlessly integrated into the landscape, symbolizing their commitment to sustainability. Its design reflects harmony with the natural surroundings, creating ideal conditions for vinification. The cellar, inspired by French cru concepts, reflects an intuitive approach to winemaking and aging, respecting the unique terroirs of the Langhe region.
In La Morra, the historical Abbey of the Most Holy Annunciation remains at the heart of Ratti's winemaking philosophy, embodying centuries-old traditions of producing wines in harmony with the land. The multi-level design of the new winery, constructed in 2002, maintains ideal aging conditions for Barolo and other wines, further enhancing their refined character.
