Cantina Sassarini
About the Winery
Cantina Sassarini was founded by Natale Sassarini, a visionary winemaker who recognized the potential of the Cinque Terre long before the official DOC was established in 1973. At a time when wine was mainly produced for family consumption, Natale built his own winery and brought together local growers, laying the foundations for a true winemaking tradition in this unique territory.
Today, his legacy is carried forward with pride by his son Giancarlo, continuing a story that spans over fifty years. The winery is deeply connected to the extreme landscape of the Cinque Terre, where steep terraces supported by centuries-old dry-stone walls shape one of the most iconic viticultural environments in the world. This heroic agriculture, defined by manual labor, resilience, and respect for tradition, remains at the heart of Cantina Sassarini’s identity.
About the Wines
The wines of Cantina Sassarini are a direct expression of the Cinque Terre terroir, a harsh yet extraordinarily rewarding environment influenced by sea winds, intense sunlight, and rugged terrain. The vineyards, planted on steep terraces carved into the cliffs, are cultivated with great effort and dedication, preserving an ancient agricultural system that has no alternative.
The winery focuses on native grape varieties such as Bosco, Albarola, and Vermentino, which thrive in this unique microclimate. These grapes give life to wines that are fresh, mineral, and deeply linked to the sea and the land. Each bottle reflects the authenticity of this extreme landscape, combining salinity, structure, and aromatic complexity, and telling the story of a territory shaped by both nature and human perseverance.
