About Winery and Wines
Cantine di Orgosolo is situated at the entrance to the town for those arriving from Nuoro, and the winery blends modern design and functionality with traditional winemaking practices. The grapes, hand-harvested at different times, are carefully sorted and transferred to the cellar in small crates for further selection before being gently pressed. The winery uses 50 hl vinificators to initiate fermentation with native yeasts, adding minimal metabisulphite for a natural fermentation process. Visitors are welcome to experience wine tastings and explore the unique offerings of the estate.
Cantine di Orgosolo cultivates vineyards located at altitudes between 300 and 700 meters in areas of high environmental value, recognized as part of the Zona Classica for Cannonau production. These vineyards, with an average size of just over one hectare, are cultivated by cooperative members using traditional, low-impact methods aimed at preserving soil fertility and water reserves. The primary grape variety grown is Cannonau, with vines trained in the alberello system or spurred cordon, ensuring a reduced number of buds per plant.
The cooperative prioritizes the conservation of the genetic heritage of century-old vineyards, using the same plant material for new plantings as in the ancient vineyards. The vineyards yield 35-40 q.li per hectare, and the grapes are primarily vinified in pure form, sometimes blended with local red varieties such as Muristellu.
The wines include:
SOROI Cannonau di Sardegna D.O.C.: A balanced symphony likened to the UNESCO-recognized Tenore singing of local shepherds.
URÙLU Cannonau di Sardegna D.O.C.: Named after a promontory near Orgosolo, overlooking the Locoe Valley.
NEALE Cannonau di Sardegna D.O.C.: A young, generous wine crafted from traditional vines.
LOCOE Isola dei Nuraghi I.G.T.: Named after an abandoned village whose inhabitants moved to Orgosolo in the late 1600s.
Luna Vona Cannonau di Sardegna D.O.C.: The first organic wine from Cantine di Orgosolo, made from pure Cannonau grapes.
Fromboliere Rosato Cannonau di Sardegna: A rosé produced through soft pressing and brief skin contact, fermented with native yeasts at controlled temperatures.
