Casa Cecchin
(Winery in Berici Hills, Lessini Mountains)
About Winery and Wines
Casa Cecchin was founded in 1978 by Renato Cecchin, an engineer with a passion for wine, who in those years bought a piece of land in the hills of Montebello Vicentino, surrounded by olive trees and fruit trees.
Renato decided to grow Durella, a native variety of the Lessini Mountains that was disappearing because it produced sour and low-quality wines. He, however, strongly believed in the potential of this grape and in 1989 produced the first classic method sparkling wine from Durella grapes.
In 1992 he invented a tool for remuage: a hexagonal basket that rotates 273 bottles by 1/6 of a turn in a single movement. He patented it and it became the official method for Casa Cecchin, as well as the symbol.
Today the company is run by women, with his daughter Roberta and granddaughter Sara continuing the project that began in the 70s.
The company produces four types of wine with a single grape variety, Durella.
The company's flagship wine is the “Riserva dell'ingegnere”, a classic method sparkling wine produced in the best years, which with its five or more years of permanence on the lees demonstrates the great potential of this grape in aging.
Pietralava is a still white wine, produced since 1978, the most authentic version of Durello. Here you can feel the verticality of the grape variety and the mineral structure of the soil. This wine is accompanied by Mandégolo, a real grape juice, a slightly sparkling wine with yeasts.
However, most of the production is concentrated on sparkling wines, exclusively Classic Method. Nostrum is the youngest version, with three years of aging on the lees that translate into elegance without hiding the great personality of the grape variety that stands out on the palate.
