Casa Nuova

Winery in Langhe, Monferrato, Alta Langa

About the Winery

Our Casa Nuova Farm is located in Rocca Grimalda, in the hamlet of San Giacomo, in the heart of the Ovada hills and on the doorstep of the Ligurian Apennines. Here, where chestnut and oak forests once thrived, our family has been cultivating vines for over a century.

It all began in 1886, when our ancestor Francesco Badino purchased his first plot of land and, clearing the hillside, built what we still call “Casa Nuova” today. Since then, generation after generation, we have preserved the same passion for the vineyard and for wine, always striving to balance tradition and innovation.

In the post-war years, Giacomo Badino, together with his son Francesco, carried on the work with dedication, maintaining a viticulture based on careful pruning, sunlit exposures, and hand harvesting, which allows us to select only the finest grape clusters. From these vineyards, some nearly a century old, come our Dolcetto d’Ovada DOC, Barbera del Monferrato DOC, Ovada DOCG, and Rosato wines.

With the arrival of the new millennium, we decided to renovate the house and embrace a more sustainable vision. Since 2012, we have produced clean energy through solar panels, and in 2015, we began the conversion to organic farming, obtaining certification in 2018.

Today, every bottle we produce is the result of respect for the land, daily commitment, and a love for well-crafted work.

For us, Paola Badino and family, cultivating the vine means preserving a legacy: transforming grapes into an honest, enduring wine that tells — to those who taste it — the story of a hillside, a family, and a land that continues to thrive through time.

About the Wines

For generations, we have been cultivating Dolcetto and Barbera in the Ovada hills, where the soil and climate create ideal conditions for high-quality grapes. From the vineyard to the bottle, each of our wines reflects the character of the territory and our family.

Dolcetto d’Ovada DOC

Harvest period: September

Grape variety: Dolcetto 100%

Soil type: Predominantly clay

Alcohol (% VOL): 13.5%

Serving temperature: 16–18 °C

Protection methods: Organic, with maximum respect for the environment and people

Food pairings: Suitable for the entire meal, especially cold cuts, pasta with meat or game ragù, and red meat dishes

Made from organic Dolcetto grapes, this wine undergoes a short maceration in wooden barrels. Thanks to the constant temperature of the underground cellar (18–20 °C), malolactic fermentation occurs naturally in autumn, allowing the wine to be ready for bottling in the early months of the year. With 2–3 years of aging, the ruby red color deepens toward garnet, the aroma is winy, and the taste is dry, soft, and pleasantly almond-like.

Barbera del Monferrato DOC

Harvest period: September

Grape variety: Barbera 100%

Soil type: Predominantly clay

Alcohol (% VOL): 14%

Serving temperature: 16–18 °C

Protection methods: Organic, with maximum respect for the environment and people

Food pairings: Suitable for the entire meal, especially cold cuts, pasta with meat or game ragù, and red meat dishes

Made from hand-harvested organic Barbera grapes, this wine undergoes medium to long maceration in wooden barrels and malolactic fermentation in autumn. It has an intense ruby red color, a persistent, winescent aroma, and a full, harmonious taste. It improves with several years of aging.

Ovada DOCG

Harvest period: September

Grape variety: Dolcetto 100%

Soil type: Predominantly clay

Alcohol (% VOL): 14%

Serving temperature: 16–18 °C

Protection methods: Organic, with maximum respect for the environment and people

Food pairings: Pairs well with a wide variety of dishes: pasta with ragù, mushroom or truffle sauces, white or red meat dishes, and aged cheeses

Made from organic Dolcetto grapes, the Ovada DOCG follows the same vinification process as the Dolcetto d’Ovada DOC, but is aged for at least 12 months in steel tanks before bottling. It has a ruby red color tending toward garnet, a winy and sometimes ethereal aroma, and a dry, harmonious taste.

Rosato

Harvest period: September

Grape variety: Red grapes

Soil type: Predominantly clay

Alcohol (% VOL): 13%

Serving temperature: 10–14 °C

Protection methods: Organic, with maximum respect for the environment and people

Food pairings: Suitable for the entire meal, ideal with fish dishes and as an aperitif

The Rosato is made from organic red grapes, with a short maceration to extract only part of the color. In autumn, thanks to low temperatures, the wine naturally stabilizes and is ready for bottling at the beginning of February. It is characterized by an intense pink color, fresh and fruity aroma, and a soft, delicately lively taste, best enjoyed young.
