CATABBO Cantine

The Catabbo Company was born from Vincenzo Catabbo's intuition, who in the 90s was working in the wholesale trade of cereals and grains.  

This job led him to travel extensively, both in Italy and abroad, and to compete with different realities.

One day, he found himself talking to an elderly farmer who jealously guarded a few maps of the rare Tintilia grape! An ancient indigenous grape that until the 1800s was one of the pillars of the Molise region, but witnessed a sudden decline in the post-war period.

It was 1992 when, on a whim, half a hectare of Tintilia was planted for the first time in San Martino in Pensilis.

And this is how the story of Catabbo Winery begins, tied to the rediscovery and enhancement of the only native Molise grape variety currently recognized!

Due to Vincenzo's fortunate intuition and his tenacity, the Catabbo company has also been developed and progressed thanks to his three children: Sara, Carla, and Pasquale, who believe wholeheartedly in their father's project and are now taking it on with enthusiasm.

Catabbo Winery oversees three agricultural companies, and the Tintilia is perfectly at home in the three different pedoclimatic areas, in which it is cultivated, drawing from them different stylistic nuances that give each wine a specific taste profile and highlight its typical characteristics: 

The historic estate Tenuta di Terra Petriera includes a series of hills (Colle Cervino, Colle del Limone, Colle dei frutti). From this farm come elegant, well-structured and well-balanced wines.

Tenuta al Convento, which is characterized by richer and more compact soil. The wines it produces are essentially rounded, well-structured, and have a good acidity.

Tenuta al Calvario lies on a small hill, on  whose summit, the so- called Calvario di San Martino stand. Here planting has recently been completed of other cutting of Tintilia and the wines obtained from have persistent flavor and are well-balanced.
