About Winery and Wines

Château Shuette is a sustainable, natural vineyard and organic farm located in the heart of Bordeaux, France. Recognizing the need for the region to evolve, the estate has embraced a forward-thinking approach, focusing on sustainability while producing exceptional modern wines. The property, which spans 12 hectares, has been certified organic for more than 25 years, with 4.25 hectares dedicated to vineyards. The estate takes great care in cultivating the land, ensuring that every aspect of viticulture reflects a deep respect for the environment.

The organic approach at Château Shuette is more than a commitment — it’s a philosophy. By employing natural methods, the vineyard enhances biodiversity through the use of cover crops, which help protect and enrich the soil. Throughout the vineyard, 250 fruit trees are strategically planted, contributing to the ecological balance, while 200 bird boxes offer a habitat for local wildlife, ensuring a harmonious coexistence between nature and agriculture.

Grapes are hand-harvested to maintain the purity of the fruit and natural winemaking techniques are used to preserve the authentic character of the terroir. The winery produces a range of Orange, Claret, and Red wines, with an average annual output of 18,000 bottles. Each wine is carefully aged in either stainless steel tanks or a combination of neutral and new French oak barrels, ensuring a unique expression of flavor with minimal intervention.

The wines of Château Shuette are crafted to reflect the true essence of the land — distinct, vibrant, and naturally expressive. By integrating traditional viticulture with sustainable practices, the estate has become a symbol of the future of Bordeaux, proving that sustainability and innovation can coexist to produce wines of exceptional quality.

The 4.5-hectare vineyard is located next to the Dordogne River, with vines deeply rooted in clay and mineral-rich schist deposits from the river. Annually, the vineyard produces an average of 16,000 bottles of wine. The varieties grown include Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Noir, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and newly planted Malbec, which is currently non-productive. Additionally, there are 6 hectares of organic pasture earmarked for future regenerative farming.

The vineyard is carefully managed using sustainable practices, focusing on improving the land's condition year after year. Cultivation methods involve handwork, including pruning with two growing vines and four shoots per side, reducing fruit production to boost quality. The estate features wild borders, 250+ inter-vineyard fruit trees, 280+ bird boxes, free-range poultry for insect management, and biodynamic herbal teas as alternatives to chemical sprays. A full-cycle, successional cover crop management strategy is also employed.

Wine production follows the philosophy of creating a spectrum of wines — each grown, harvested, and matured with the best techniques and materials. No tiered system is used, as each wine is made to express its unique characteristics and style.
