DAF WINES

DAF Wines is a family-run winery located in Dafnes, a historic semi-mountainous village in the heart of Crete — a place with over 4,000 years of winemaking history, dating back to the Minoan civilization, home to the oldest known wine press in Europe.

For more than 100 years, three generations of the Douloufakis family have cultivated approximately 100 stremmas of vineyards, planted on limestone-rich soils, at altitude, shaped by Mediterranean winds and intense Cretan sunlight. These natural elements give the vineyards their resilience and define the character of every wine we produce.

Our philosophy is rooted in observation and respect for nature. We allow the land to lead and intervene only when necessary. Even during challenging years of drought and climatic extremes, we work patiently to preserve the health of the vines and the authenticity of the terroir.

At DAF Wines, we work exclusively with indigenous Cretan grape varieties such as Dafni, Vidiano, Mandilaria, Liatiko and Moschato Spinas — grapes that are perfectly adapted to Crete’s climate and soils and deeply connected to the island’s identity.

Our goal is not to follow trends, but to create wines that express their place of origin. Each bottle is a translation of the Cretan landscape into wine: the sun, the wind, the rocky soils, and the dry Mediterranean energy of Dafnes.

For us, success means authenticity. A great wine should taste of where it comes from. When you open a bottle of DAF Wines, you should experience the land that created it — the slopes, the climate, and the history of Crete — captured in the glass.
