Fattoria di Luiano
About the Winery
Luiano is a historic estate in the heart of the Chianti Classico area, with winemaking roots dating back to the 9th century. Over the centuries, it has been owned by some of Florence’s most prestigious families, including those linked to the Medici, before becoming a dynamic family-run winery in 1959.
The modern chapter began when Alberto Palombo moved from Naples to Tuscany and transformed the estate into a specialized wine-producing farm, replanting the vineyards and focusing on high-quality bottled wines. Today, the winery is run by the new generation—Alessandro and Felicia—who combine innovation, creativity, and strong family values to carry forward this legacy.
Luiano is more than a winery; it is a place where history, passion, and personality meet, resulting in wines that reflect both tradition and a contemporary vision.
About the Wines
Luiano’s wines are a genuine expression of their Chianti terroir, produced from around 20 hectares of vineyards located on south-facing slopes between 300 and 375 meters above sea level.
The estate benefits from a rich diversity of soils—including Alberese, galestro, clay, and limestone—which contribute to the complexity and balance of the wines. Vineyard management follows principles of responsible viticulture, aiming to preserve long-term soil health and achieve optimal grape ripening.
Winemaking takes place in a combination of traditional and modern facilities:
- Fermentation in temperature-controlled concrete vats
- Aging in wooden barrels of different sizes and toasting levels
- Final refinement in a cellar equipped with both concrete and stainless steel
The philosophy is to create wines that are balanced, expressive, and approachable, designed to be enjoyed by both enthusiasts and casual drinkers. Each wine reflects a harmony between nature—soil, sun, and climate—and human craftsmanship, resulting in a clear and recognizable identity tied to the Chianti landscape.
