About the Winery

La Chimera d’Albegna is a family-owned estate sprawling over thirty hectares in the stylish wine country of Grosseto of the Maremma district of Tuscany. The Chimera estate comprises five individual, sun-soaked, hilly vineyards. Each vineyard features a collection of different grape varieties, which include Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Canaiolo, Syrah, Ciliegiolo, Alicante, and Colorino. Our soils are rich in minerals, and the grapes are harvested by hand.

About the Wines

We produce sophisticated wines in the designated DOC Maremma Toscana, as well as Super Tuscans. The Sangiovese grape is the building block of most of our wines, with the inclusion of other varieties such as Ciliegiolo, Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah to create the unique character of each wine.

Our wines:

Caletra: a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet, and Merlot, aged 15 months in oak barriques
Oriente: Syrah 100%
Leonardo: a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
Roman: Merlot 100%
Raffaello: Sangiovese 100%
Agape: Rosè wine crafted from Sangiovese, Syrah and Merlot grapes.
Suley: white wine obtained from Sangiovese and Vermentino grapes.
Pashà: Vermentino.
Ianos: Brut rosè crafted from Sangiovese, Syrah, and Merlot grapes.

A pleasant discovery

Thanks to Jacopo and his wife we felt at home from the moment we arrived.
With kindness, professionalism and friendliness we were guided through the rows of vines and then visited the cellar before enjoying the Syrian/Tuscan dinner on the terrace.
The choice of wines that accompanied the dishes was excellent.

Recommended experience

We improvised a visit because of the uncertain weather and we couldn't have made a better choice. Jacopo, the owner of the winery, welcomed us and gave us a tour of the vineyards, explaining his work and his philosophy with passion. After this short tour we went to the cellar, where he had us taste 5 of his wines, all with a story and interesting anecdotes. We had a wonderful time and Jacopo is truly a great host. We will definitely be back.
