About Winery and Wines
I created the Micro Winerie in 2021! I am Maxime Rozé, an Agricultural Engineer and Oenologist, and I worked for several years in production in France and abroad (California / New Zealand). Passionate about this field, I naturally wanted to make my own wine. However, not coming from a family of winemakers (I am originally from Brittany with parents who are computer engineers), I decided to focus on purchasing organic grapes in the city center, in order to offer wine-related events throughout the year and share my passion with as many people as possible. I therefore proposed the project to different places, and it quickly matched with the DARWIN structure, which had been considering this project for several years, and which made sense in the business ecosystem (already having beer/coffee/chocolate production). And so the Micro Winerie was created in February 2021 to receive the first vintage in September 2021.
Located on the right bank of Bordeaux, in the Bastide district, this former military facility, now eco-rehabilitated, is one of the most visited places in the city called DARWIN. Darwin is a unique sociological experience that is difficult to summarize due to its multifaceted nature. It attracts as many different profiles as it does innovative projects. From skaters and streetart enthusiasts to green economy entrepreneurs, electro music fans, biodiversity advocates, and Sunday "brunchers," everyone finds something to enjoy.
It is a real laboratory of local, craft-made products: the coffee is roasted on-site by L'Alchimiste, bread and pastries are made just a stone's throw away (and not a step further!) by Babelbread, the bakers of Darwin. Origines is the organic cocoa roaster and artisan chocolate maker. And of course, there is an organic wine production made by la Micro Winerie.
One of the founding values of the Winery is its ethical and territorial commitment. We purchase grapes from carefully selected partner winemakers in the region who are committed to environmentally respectful viticulture, practicing Organic or Biodynamic Agriculture. A true long-term partnership is established with them, and the same plots are harvested each year to have a genuine terroir approach.
We visit them, monitor the progress of their plots, and participate in the hand-harvesting. Then, we vinify the grapes in our own facilities. The partner winemakers will regularly visit the Micro-Winery to introduce the public to their terroirs, their passion, and of course, their wines!
Red grape varieties: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc (from Loire and the region), Malbec, Tannat
White grape varieties: Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, Chenin, Gros and Petit Manseng
THE WINES
All of the wines are made by Maxime in the winery.
We limit addtion of products to the bare minimum, as we firmly believe that a good wine is above all a living wine! The addition of ingredients, particularly sulfites, is minimized, even tending towards zero. 100% of our wines are made with indigenous yeasts, without filtration, and without fining for the reds. 80% of the grapes come from Entre-Deux-Mers in Bordeaux. 20% come from neighboring wine regions (Loire/Jurançon/Madiran).
Our goal is to produce Bordeaux wine that fits into a new dynamic of winemakers seeking to create fresher, fruit-forward wines that break the image of highly extracted and heavily oaked Bordeaux.
We also create "fusion of terroirs" blends, with grapes from several wine regions coming together in a single wine. We currently produce 10 different cuvées: 4 reds, 4 whites, one orange wine (white maceration), and a natural sparkling wine.
