Legado de Orniz

Winery in Toro, Zamora, Castilla y Leòn

About the Winery

Legado de Orniz combines four generations of winemaking tradition in San Román de Hornija with modern expertise to produce authentic and elegant Toro wines. The estate is dedicated to preserving centuries-old Tinta de Toro vineyards in harmony with the valley's unique microclimate and diverse soils. These vineyards are dry-farmed and goblet-trained, with some pre-phylloxera vines, reflecting the perseverance of the region's winemaking heritage.

The soils, a key asset of the winery, range from stony and high-altitude plots to sandy-loam slopes, each contributing complexity, concentration, and freshness to the wines. The terroir is further enhanced by the extreme climate, with long winters and hot, dry summers, resulting in grapes of exceptional quality and character.

Founded by Enriqueta Celemín Amaro, a fourth-generation winemaker, and Diego Alfredo Ribbert, an agricultural engineer and winemaker from Mendoza, the winery is committed to creating wines that showcase the incredible potential of this unique region.

Cindus: This wine is a tribute to the land of Visigoth kings, revealing the authentic freshness, natural acidity, complexity, and juicy fruit of Tinta de Toro. With its bigarreau cherry red color and vibrant violet hues, it boasts aromas of fresh red fruits delicately integrated with the subtle touch of six months in French oak. On the palate, it’s medium-bodied with vibrant, ripe, and spicy fruit flavors, rounded off by sweet tannins that give it a persistent finish.

Triens: A symbol of innovation and strength, Triens defines the powerful and fruit-forward character of Tinta de Toro. This wine has a deep red color with bluish reflections and an intense fruity aroma, highlighting raspberries, cherries, and floral notes like violets. The aging in French oak adds soft touches of vanilla and toast, resulting in a fresh, vibrant wine with balanced acidity, smooth tannins, and a persistent finish.

Epitafio: Reflecting the wisdom of time, Epitafio showcases the elegance and depth of Tinta de Toro. Its intense red color with bluish reflections hints at the complex aromas of blackberries, raspberries, and subtle notes of cocoa and toast. On the palate, this wine offers a harmonious balance of ripe, sweet tannins, wood, and refreshing acidity, concluding with a sensation of depth and consistency.

Legado de Orniz: This wine represents the art of creation, with a complex balance of power, strength, and elegance. The deep red color with garnet reflections sets the stage for a concentrated aroma of fruits, spices, and pepper. On the palate, it’s elegant and full-bodied, with silky tannins and a perfect balance of acidity, delivering a sophisticated and gratifying tasting experience.

Simply magnificent!
It was the best tour and tasting at a winery that we have ever experienced.
We were driven to the different vineyards to have their respective special features explained to us.
The owners' philosophy is absolutely convincing. It consists of a love for the region, for history, for nature, and of course, for the wine. The wines we tasted are simply outstanding.
Definitely go there and experience it for yourself!!

Best tour of my life!
It was an amazing experience, with tours of the vineyards, discussion of soil and terroir, and how these express themselves in the wine. The wine itself is the best Toro I've ever had, clearly superior to the wine from the better known bodegas in the region. I've done wine tours all over the world, but this one was easily the best. The price of this wine will skyrocket once the right importer finds out about it.
