About Winery and Wines
MASCIARELLI Tenute Agricole was founded in 1981 by Gianni Masciarelli, an iconic figure in Italian winemaking and a key player in the modernization of Abruzzo's wine industry. Located in San Martino sulla Marrucina in the province of Chieti, the winery is the heart of an extensive operation that spans over 60 vineyard plots across 13 municipalities in all four provinces of Abruzzo. With a deep commitment to the land and its traditions, Masciarelli has grown into a celebrated name, producing more than 25 labels across seven distinct product lines, including Classic Line, Gianni Masciarelli, Villa Gemma, Marina Cvetic, Castello di Semivicoli, Iskra, and Valori Chiamami Quando Piove. The winery also produces a limited quantity of organic extra virgin olive oil, further showcasing its dedication to quality and sustainability. In line with its mission to celebrate and enhance Abruzzo's rich culture and traditions, Masciarelli has restored the historic CASTELLO DI SEMIVICOLI, a 17th-century baronial mansion now transformed into a luxurious Relais de Charme. This stunning venue, nestled among the vineyards, has become a beacon for wine tourism and a haven for those seeking an authentic, slow-paced experience in the heart of Abruzzo.
Masciarelli Tenute Agricole is renowned for its diverse and exceptional range of wines, which include both classic and innovative expressions of Abruzzo's viticultural heritage. The portfolio features traditional Montepulciano, Cerasuolo, and Trebbiano d'Abruzzo, available in fresh, easy-to-drink styles, as well as more sophisticated, premium lines that showcase the depth and complexity of these native grapes. The winery is also credited with the revival of the Pecorino grape, an indigenous variety that has gained popularity for its unique character. Additionally, Masciarelli has achieved remarkable success with international grape varieties such as Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, which are crafted into wines of distinctive elegance and power. With an annual production of approximately 2.5 million bottles, Masciarelli's wines have earned international acclaim and are distributed in 55 countries, making up about 55% of the winery's turnover. Each bottle embodies the passion, tradition, and innovative spirit that define Masciarelli, solidifying its reputation as one of Italy's finest wine producers.
