Monserrato 1973
About the Winery
Founded in 1973 by Francesco Zecchina, Monserrato 1973 is a family-run organic farm located on the hills around Benevento. Originally focused on tobacco and olive cultivation, the estate has since transitioned to wine and organic arable crops, with Paola Zecchina and her son Lucio now at the helm. The farm spans 60 hectares, producing olives, durum wheat, and native grapes. Monserrato’s mission is to preserve the region’s agricultural heritage, combining tradition with sustainable practices, creating a blend of past and future.
About the Wines
Monserrato 1973 produces a line of six organic wines, all reflecting the essence of the Samnite terroir. Their Barbera del Sannio (Camaiola), Falanghina, Aglianico, and Fiano DOC are crafted from carefully selected parcels of the vineyard. Each wine expresses the unique characteristics of the region, with a special focus on low-impact agronomy. The estate also produces Rintocco IGT, a pure Aglianico made from grapes planted in 1998. Monserrato’s wines are an authentic expression of Benevento’s native varieties and its winemaking traditions.

A very pleasant experience
The oenologist was very professional and at the same time empathetic.
A truly excellent wine tasting, followed by a tasting of oils produced by them, accompanied by a platter of cured meats, cheeses, and products preserved in oil, all of their own production.
Highly recommended experience.
I will definitely be back.
