Mulini di Segalari

Winery in Bolgheri, Maremma, Etruscan Coast

About the Winery

Mulini di Segalari embarked on a mission in 2002 to rejuvenate a neglected valley by planting vineyards and restoring 18th-century mills. Spanning 3.3 hectares on the hillsides, the vineyards are carefully aligned to follow the land’s natural slope and are positioned to maximize sunlight exposure. Mulini di Segalari's philosophy centers on a deep respect for nature, allowing the vines to nourish themselves naturally without artificial intervention.

By embracing the land's natural rhythms, Mulini di Segalari produces wines that genuinely reflect the essence of their environment, aiming to deliver the most authentic and unaltered expression of the territory. The vineyard's approach is rooted in fostering natural energies, resulting in wines that are as pure and sincere as the land they come from.

About the Wines

The vineyards of Mulini di Segalari feature a variety of classic Bolgheri DOC red vines, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Syrah, and native Italian varieties like Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo, and Pugnitello. White varieties include Vermentino, Manzoni Bianco, and Viognier. Cultivated using biodynamic and organic practices, the vines thrive without chemical fertilizers, reflecting the authentic expression of the Bolgheri terroir. The wine production process emphasizes natural methods, including fermentation with indigenous yeasts and aging in cement, terracotta, and oak barrels. The low yield and careful grape selection enhance the uniqueness of their wines. The estate produces five distinct wines: Bolgheri Vermentino, Bolgheri Rosato, Soloterra (IGT Costa Toscana), Bolgheri Rosso, and Bolgheri Superiore, along with an extra virgin olive oil.

Vineyard tour, winery visit and tasting
The experience was truly pleasant and interesting. During the vineyard tour, the method used was explained to us in a very clear and professional manner, the same goes for the visit to the small and cozy winery. Then we moved to the tasting room where we tasted the main types of wine with their respective explanations, all accompanied by an abundant platter with crostini, cheeses and cold cuts. I will definitely come back if I have the chance, especially in the spring.

The most biological winery we've seen
We were very impressed with the tour of the winery which is quite small, but their production is completely done a step beyond organic wine making and includes an even higher level of natural production. It's small but very interesting and the wines are delicious, we highly recommend going. The owners are hands on and you can tell this is their passion.

A beautiful experience, another dimension!
A very beautiful experience,
The girl from the tour is very nice and kind, she explained everything to us in an accurate but simple way, also answering our questions and curiosities.
The rustic setting is very beautiful, located in an old mill, it gave a magical touch.
The platter, like all the wines, was delicious!

A must-do experience!
Observe everything, from the panorama to the details: the atmosphere is special and magical.

Absolutely worth a dedicated trip to Mulini di Segalari: an enchanting estate
There were 8 of us, between adults and young adults, we took this dirt road following the wooden arrow that said “Segalari” and then we crossed a small ford in the middle of the forest, to emerge into the enchanting landscape of 2 mills transformed into a winery and home for Marina and Danilo, the creators, no longer in their thirties, who bought these plots of land and the ruins of the 2 ancient mills, located on a small stream and immersed in the most pristine nature.
And they deserve all of this nature, which they have wisely and respectfully shaped and from which they have brought to life, step by step, through experiments and unforeseen difficulties, an estate that seems like a treasure chest full of natural jewels and precious intuitions and that has led them, in the Bolgheri area, to establish themselves with a small production of organic and biodynamic pearls (red, white and rosé)!!!!
You cannot skip a full tour, because Marina unlocks your mind and transmits to you the love for KNOW-HOW and KNOWING how to live and cultivate very particular vines like Ciliegiolo, Incrocio Manzoni, pure Sangiovese, Syrah, etc….
They harvest by hand, staggered, based on the different vigor of the bunches, which have been mapped, for 6 years now, by weather stations and the wise use of a drone.
Thank you Marina, for being so interesting, and Jason for his friendliness and expertise.
