Palmento Costanzo

Winery in Etna

About the Winery

Palmento Costanzo is located in Contrada Santo Spirito, in Passopisciaro village, on the northern side of Mount Etna. For centuries grapes of Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio, Carricante and Catarratto have been cultivated here. Today we farm following the principles of organic farming and all the labor is done manually. Over one hundred terraces - a long series of dry stone walls - rising from 600 to 800 metres host our old vines which are bush-trained in the typical chestnut pole. This unique land surrounds the ancient winery that has been brought back to life in a meticulous and sensitive restructuration project based on the principles of bioarchitecture. This is our home, where our Etna DOC wines are born: an authentic expression of the largest active volcano in Europe.

About the Wines

Prefillossera Etna DOC A wine that takes us back in time when in the late 1800’s an invasion of the insect Phylloxera destroyed almost 70% of all vines in Europe. However, on Mount Etna some vines managed to resist and today they are more than 100 years old, giving birth to wines of great depth. Contrada Santo Spirito Comes from a selection of our oldest vines located in Contrada Santo Spirito. It is the highest expression of our wines, it has a great depth that authentically communicates the pedoclimatic conditions as well as the historical and cultural traditions of the Northern slope of the volcano. Three parcels of our vineyard in Contrada Santo Spirito were choosen for the production of this wine: 466, 468 and 464. In the glass each parcel follows a unique path that we can taste as we are caressing every single vine. Di Sei. Bianco di Sei Etna DOC Nero di Sei Etna DOC The wines in the Sei line are made from bush-trained vines, harvested manually, aged between 80 and 100 years. Its name recalls the classification number for Mount Etna in the scientific map of the most active volcanoes on the planet. Sei means Six. Mofete Mofete Bianco Etna DOC Mofete Rosato Etna DC Mofete Rosso Etna DOC The Mofete line offers a jovial interpretation of Mount Etna wines. Here, we feature younger vines, ranging from 10 to 30 years of age. The name pays tribute to the last gaseous manifestations of lava thrown during an eruption.

Unexpected
I was truly amazed by the courtesy, elegance, hospitality and above all, by the quality of the wine. Sommelier and owners with a special courtesy, attentive to their guests. We will definitely be back in the summer, to enjoy the professionalism again and to also be able to appreciate the exterior of the palmento. Thank you to all of you

Fabulous Day!
What a great experience my family and I had here! We were welcomed into the vineyard waiting area and offered drinks after our journey. Whilst waiting for the other members of the group, we were able to relax in the very comfortable seating area which was nice. We were then given a tour around the vineyard by a very knowledgeable lady (apologies, I forgot you name) who educated us in the different ways of growing grapes and the maintenance of the land. She answered every question we had, without hesitation. Then, it was on to the wine tasting which, again, was very informative. With each wine we were provided with a different type of food which was a lovely surprise as we were only expecting bread, cheese and cold meats! We enjoyed ourselves so much here and were not hurried whatsover, we were allowed the time to enjoy the breathtaking views from the great big windows! I would not hesitate in recommending Palmento Costanzo!

Best wine tasting ever
We are funs of wine tasting, so we had few around the world. The thing is , thelis was the best. Definitely worth taking and I recomand having the full tasting with lunch included.
So, we learned a lot about the wines of Edna, we visited the impresive production area. Cosimo, our guide was very professional and generous in explaining everything and unswering all our questions. We tasted more wines then writen on the offer and enjoyed all of them very much. The lunch was extremely tasty and prepared with talent and good ingredients. So , wonderful experience. Many thanks to Cosimo and the team.
This is for only a sugestion in organizing. Maybe for some visitors 3,5 hours is a bit long for their schedule, even with lunch. But this is only our opinion.

Pleasant and very interesting experience.
The visit begins with a walk in the vineyard.
Afterwards you move inside the palmento, visiting the structure.

Lunch with a tasting of quality wines.
A location that conveys tranquility, perfect for a relaxing day.

Magnificent experience
My partner and I arrived at Palmento Costanzo with very high expectations… and what can I say, every expectation was surpassed. The view was beautiful, the explanation and the tour of the vineyard were perfect, the wines were exquisite. The staff was truly knowledgeable and very kind. A beautiful experience
It would be useful to dedicate a space for a potential overnight stay for people who wish to remain

Fabulous tasting and winery
They were so generous to not only accommodate us at the last minute but also to give us special attention and show us some areas not normally shown to tourists. The wine was wonderful. It was pouring when we were leaving and the staff offered us to stay as long as we like, offering additional wine or coffee. Very special experience.

Fantastic experience
Beautiful vineyard between the ancient and the modern, stylishly furnished in the interior spaces and typically Sicilian outside, immersed in green and lush nature with a view of the Nebrodi mountains.
The staff was super kind and professional in the explanation of the tour and in the tasting.
The staff even added a glass not included in the price to let us taste a delicious red wine that we later bought.
What can I say but thank you ❤️
