Zumbo Vini
(Winery in Catania)
Provides 4 wine tastings and winery visit from €55.00
Zumbo Vini began in 1972 when Salvatore Zumbo launched an innovative viticultural project by planting one of the first specialized vineyards on Mount Etna at approximately 750 meters above sea level. With his initial five hectares, Salvatore pioneered modern viticulture in the region, moving away from the traditional alberello technique. His goal was to restore the reputation and prestige of the DOC Etna wine production area, which had been in decline for many years.
Today, sisters Erica and Ramona proudly carry on their grandfather Salvatore's legacy, running the Zumbo family business with a conservative philosophy both in the vineyard and the cellar. For them, this approach has become a way of life, rooted in respect for tradition and quality.
The mission of the Zumbo family is to highlight the unique characteristics of Nerello Mascalese, striving to achieve an unparalleled level of quality in its expression. There are no shortcuts or trends followed; these wines are crafted to reflect the specific vintage and are designed to age gracefully, offering those who enjoy them a unique and enduring sensory experience over time.

The estate boasts vines up to 140 years old, supported by traditional alberello training and dry-stone lava walls—a testament to Etna’s deep-rooted winemaking heritage. Each vine is cultivated with respect for centuries-old traditions, using environmentally conscious methods that prioritize quality over quantity.
Casale 120 also focuses on preserving biodiversity, with a section of the vineyard dedicated to nearly extinct native Etna varieties. Meanwhile, on the southern flank of the volcano, in Milo at 900 meters, the winery cultivates Carricante for its Etna Bianco Superiore.
Located in the hamlet of Rovittello, just minutes from Linguaglossa, Piano Provenzana, and the Catania-Messina highway, Casale 120 welcomes travelers eager to discover Etna’s unique viticultural landscape.
Cantina del Malandrino - Etna Winery
(Winery in Catania)
Provides 1 wine tasting and winery visit from €40.00
Cantina del Malandrino is part of an organic farm spanning approximately 28 hectares on the East/North-East side of Etna. We are located in the land of Mascali, the birthplace of Nerello Mascalese, the grape typically used for Etna wine. This steep slope benefits from the fresh air coming from the sea.
We welcome our guests in the ancient Palmento from the late 19th century, carefully renovated using green building techniques and natural materials. Within these walls, steeped in stories and passions, our bottled wine rests before reaching the glass.
The vineyard and production cellar are situated at the top of the hill, 500 meters above sea level, approximately 1.5 kilometers away. As you cross the farm to reach it, either on foot or by car, you will have the opportunity to appreciate the natural and cultivated biodiversity of our orchards, which feature subtropical and ancient Sicilian varieties. You will also witness our eco-sustainable practices and the overall project of the farm, including other types of "palmento" and "masserie" renovated for guests.
In the vineyard, surrounded by terraces and low lava stone walls, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, you will discover the reasons behind the ancient method of cultivating "sapling" vines. Once in the cellar, inside another historic Palmento, you will have the chance to see firsthand the shapes and materials that influence the evolution of wine, admiring the different types of amphorae made from natural terracotta, cocciopesto, and Georgian qvevri.

VERDERAME BOUTIQUE WINERY
(Winery in Catania)
Provides 2 wine tastings and winery visit from €45.00
Verderame Boutique Winery was born out of a desire to restore the beauty of the historic terraces and revive the wine production that had fallen into decline over generations. Located near Etna and Passopisciaro, the estate traces its origins to the late 19th century when Remigia Camardi, a descendant of the Vigo family, married Michele Leonardi, establishing the original Moganazzi estate. The estate spanned about four hectares and was primarily used for wine production. However, over time, the land was divided, and much of the vineyard fell into disrepair.
Driven by a passion for reviving the family's legacy, the current generation undertook a meticulous project to restore the vineyard. A philological study was conducted among the historic terraces, known as "razoles," to accurately recreate the original planting pattern from the late 1800s. This involved laying hundreds of meters of wire and ensuring the new vineyard matched the exact original layout.
Verderame Winery practices "heroic" cultivation on the challenging volcanic terraces of Etna, limiting the yield to just one kilogram of grapes per plant. This respect for the land and the vintage results in wines that truly reflect the terroir and the dedication of the vineyard. The winemaking process focuses on preserving the integrity of the vintage, with minimal intervention in the cellar.
Verderame's wines are crafted with time and care, embodying a deep connection to the land, the history, and the generations of winemakers that came before. Each bottle tells a story of commitment and passion, offering a sensory experience that reflects the unique characteristics of the vineyard and the surrounding terroir.
