Poggio al Rigoloccio
About the Winery
In the heart of the Maremma, overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, surrounded by wind, sea, and ancient volcanic soils, Poggio al Rigoloccio was born.
Here, the land tells a unique story: since 1898, with the discovery of pyrite in Rigoloccio, the minerals naturally present in the subsoil have enriched the vineyards, giving our wines structure, elegance, and a distinctive mineral character.
The grapes, sourced exclusively from our estate vineyards, are carefully hand-harvested to preserve their quality and authenticity. Every stage of production — from vinification and aging to bottling at the winery — is meticulously overseen by our winemaker, Gerhard Sanin, who continuously supervises the entire production process.
Our philosophy combines tradition, terroir, and passion to create wines that truly express the authentic soul of the Maremma.
About the Wines
Poggio al Rigoloccio's production follows a Bordeaux-inspired style, both in the selection of grape varieties and in the aging approach.
The vineyards are planted mainly with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot, alongside Chardonnay for the production of white wines.
For the red wines, aging takes place primarily in French oak, using both barriques and cigarro (large oak casks), with the aim of enhancing elegance, structure, and aromatic complexity.
