Winery in Vesuvius

About the Winery

Sorrentino Vini, founded in 1990 by Paolo Sorrentino, is a distinguished winery located in the heart of the Vesuvio National Park. As the largest estate on Mount Vesuvius, with 35 hectares of vineyards, Sorrentino Vini is uniquely positioned to harness the extraordinary terroir of this historic region. The vineyards span from 350 meters to 600 meters above sea level, the highest altitude on Vesuvius where cultivation is possible. The challenging conditions of the sandy and volcanic soil at these elevations create a distinctive environment that imparts unique characteristics to our wines. The Prodivi line, a result of 15 years of dedicated vineyard work, exemplifies our commitment to celebrating and experimenting with Vesuvian grape varieties. This project has allowed us to craft wines that not only honor the rich tradition of the area but also surprise and delight with their exceptional qualities. Visitors to Sorrentino Vini can explore the beauty of the Vesuvian landscape, learn about our sustainable practices, and experience the passion that drives our winemaking.

About the Wines

The most renowned wine produced on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius is Lacryma Christi, a wine steeped in history and legend. As the only DOC wine produced in this region, Lacryma Christi is exclusive to the Vesuvian terroir and is available in three varieties: white, red, and rosé. The white is crafted from a blend of Falanghina, Coda di Volpe, and Catalanesca grapes, while the red and rosé versions feature Piedirosso and Aglianico. The unique blend of local grapes, such as the 80% Coda di Volpe and 20% Falanghina in the white Lacryma Christi, results in wines with a profound connection to their volcanic origins. The name Lacryma Christi, or "Tears of Christ," originates from a religious legend. It is said that when Lucifer was cast out of Paradise, he stole a piece of land from Christ’s kingdom, now known as Vesuvius. Moved by the beauty of this land, Christ shed tears that fell on the soil, giving birth to the vines from which this legendary wine is made. Sorrentino Vini continues this tradition, producing wines that capture the essence of the Vesuvian landscape and its deep-rooted history.

Wine tasting (3-wine package with vineyard tour)
Very positive experience. Carmelo was extremely kind and helpful: he guided us in the discovery of the wines, enriching the tasting with technical explanations and historical stories related to the vineyard. He conveyed all his passion for wine to us and also kindly offered us some off-menu tastings. Highly recommended experience!

A splendid experience.
On the slopes of Vesuvius, immersed in centuries-old vineyards with the panorama of the Gulf of Naples, we spent a truly special day.
Friendliness of the staff, excellent wines and excellent dishes, and then we learned many interesting facts about the noble art of vine cultivation and about the quality of the wines...
I highly recommend this experience...

A complete experience and beyond expectations
An experience that exceeded expectations. We were looked after from beginning to end: they dedicated time to us between the tour in the vineyard and the tasting, explaining everything clearly. Quality wines and food. For the service we received, the value for money is excellent. Recommended.

Big disappointment
Location not easy to find.
Okay welcome.
The tasting was a tasting in name only.
No explanation given about the wines.
Glasses barely filled.
Staff not very sales-oriented.
We left the premises without a single word from the people there.
Sales training necessary.

Not satisfied
The estate is in an optimal location, but unfortunately I was not satisfied with the service... too long of a wait for a tasting... arrived at 1:00 PM, left at 4:30 PM for three courses... the wine tasting was done without changing glasses, so that says it all... I'm sorry...
I think that the tasting must be done as it should be, otherwise there's no point in tasting the wines...

A 5-star experience at Sorrentino
Among the dark rows of Vesuvius, the Sorrentino winery offers a journey that goes far beyond the classic tasting. The walk among the century-old vines, with a view of the Gulf of Naples, prepares the palate and the mind: the volcanic soil already tells the story of the wine to come.

The “Vesuvio” menu is designed to enhance local, zero-kilometer flavors. It opens with a rich antipasto – cured meats, grilled vegetables, casatiello – and continues with pasta with Piennolo tomatoes, a symbol of the area, a vegetable parmigiana, and a homemade dessert. Each course is accompanied by a different glass: from the Dòrè Caprettone sparkling wine to the white and red Lacryma Christi, ending with the Aglianico Don Paolo.

The wines fully express the mineral character of the soil: smoky notes, intense savoriness, but always elegant. The staff is welcoming and knowledgeable, able to weave together history, geology, and poetry without ever being didactic.

Always a pleasure!
I had already been to this estate a few years ago, and it's always a pleasure to be there.
Aside from the GORGEOUS location, the visit to the vineyard is very interesting, Mr. Carmelo explained everything to us with exceptional simplicity and calmness.
Their wine selection is very good in my opinion, and the food is just as good.
I recommend going :)

Fabulous!
An unforgettable experience among the volcanic vineyards of Vesuvius! Tenuta Sorrentino is a little paradise immersed in nature, with a breathtaking view of the Gulf of Naples and the majestic profile of Vesuvius as a backdrop.

The food? Truly excellent: traditional Campanian dishes prepared with fresh and authentic ingredients. Each course is designed to enhance the wine, and it succeeds perfectly in its intent. But the true star of the day is, without a doubt, the wine: incredible.

From the mineral and fresh whites like Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio Bianco, to the intense and deep reds, every sip tells the story of the territory. The taste is full, enveloping, with that volcanic note that makes every glass unique. An “insane” wine in the most positive sense of the term: hard to forget.

The staff is welcoming and knowledgeable, ready to passionately tell the story of the estate and its wines. If you love wine and want to live an authentic, intense, and genuine experience, this tasting is a must.

UNFORGETTABLE
It was a truly unforgettable experience. We participated in the vineyard tour guided by Mr. Carmelo, a person of extraordinary passion and deep knowledge of wine, who won us over with his engaging stories.
After the visit, we were welcomed into the dining room with a breathtaking view, where the sommelier Beniamino and the waitress Mariarosaria pampered us with professionalism, attentiveness, and great courtesy.
I highly recommend this experience: not only for the excellent quality of the wine and food, but also for the warm welcome and the atmosphere that leaves a special memory.
