About Winery and Wines
he estate overlooks the gulf of Portoferraio and takes its name from the walls which enclose 20 hectares of land, mostly vineyards and olive groves. The main business is the production and retail sale of Elba’s traditional wines (red, white, rosé and Aleatico) and cold-extra virgin olive oil. Its origins can be traced back to the late 16th century, when the cellars and the old hamlet were built.
The walls and the mansion date from the early 19th century. Napoleon Bonaparte also stayed at La Chiusa on two separate occasions: the first time just after his arrival on the island, while waiting to be received with pomp and ceremony in Portoferraio, and the second time after hunting on Mount Fabbrello.
Tenuta La chiusa produce 100000 bottles per year, with Autocthona grapes Vermentino, Ansonica, TRebbiano, Sangiovese and Aleatico. Our production includes the main DOC wines of the Island of Elba. We offer 5 labels of white wines that evoke summer, the sea, and fish, representing the essence of the island. The red wines, on the other hand, tell our story and are made from Sangiovese grapes, reflecting the Tuscan winemaking tradition. Our rosé wine is perfect for pairing with summer appetizers and more, wonderful when paired with cold cuts, fresh tomatoes, and grilled meats. The Aleatico dell’Elba Passito DOCG is considered a true flagship of the island from an enological perspective, with wine festivals organized in its honor. Legend has it that Napoleon fell madly in love with Aleatico dell’Elba, even consuming it for breakfast during his stay on the island!
