Bellissima esperienza

6/1/22

About Winery and Wines

“Burgundy is in Corvino, too” wrote the Provincia Pavese at the end of the eighties and it is not a coincidence. Kyriakos Kynigopoulos, internationally renowned winemaker and great expert on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, was called directly from Burgundy to Corvino San Quirico to match his talent with a land clearly full of potential. Under the direction of the great enologist, supported by a professional and talented team, a great Pinot Noir (Noir) and a Chardonnay Blanc of the highest level were created. Almost thirty years have passed since that historic meeting, the Noir has earned a place in the most refined cellars and wine shops in the world, awards at international competitions, excellent judgments and mentions in the most authoritative guides, then it obtained the prestigious “tre bicchieri” award of the “Vini d’Italia 2010” guide, then again in 2012.

The Mazzolino Estate stretches through the heart of the Oltrepò Pavese DOC region, on the right bank of the river Po, in the hilly area near the Apennines and along the 45th parallel north. It is in the old hamlet of Mazzolino, near Corvino San Quirico, that the Braggiotti family, owners of the Mazzolino Estate since 1980, planted the roots of the winery’s philosophy: thirty hectares of land in the hills, twenty of which are vineyards, favoring the grape varieties most suited to this area. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, next to Cabernet Sauvignon and the native grape Bonarda, are planted in the clayey and slightly calcareous soil of the hills with a northeast and northwest exposure, where they find a microclimate favorable to their development. Low yields per hectare, severe pruning, naturally grassing over the vineyards and the absence of chemical fertilizers are the basis for obtaining great quality wines.
