Tenute Rubino

Winery in Salento

About the Winery

The Tenute Rubino project began in the 1980s, founded by Tommaso Rubino, a visionary who recognized the immense potential of Salento’s viticulture. Through the acquisition of five estates, Tommaso established a solid foundation for producing wines that celebrate the richness of Puglia’s native grape varieties. In 1999, he was joined by his son Luigi and daughter-in-law Romina, who together launched the Tenute Rubino brand in the Brindisi region. Today, Tenute Rubino is synonymous with authentic, terroir-driven wines that have revived the global reputation of Apulian wines. Dedicated to sustainability, the winery achieved the Equalitas certification in March 2022, underscoring their commitment to environmentally responsible viticulture. Visitors to Tenute Rubino will discover a unique blend of tradition and innovation, where the Rubino family’s passion for the land is reflected in every bottle.

About the Wines

At the heart of Tenute Rubino’s winemaking is the revival of Susumaniello, an ancient black grape variety of Dalmatian origin that was nearly lost to history. Known for its abundant yields in its early years, Susumaniello’s productivity gradually diminishes over time, resulting in intensely concentrated flavors, with less than one kilo of grapes per plant at full maturity. In addition to Susumaniello, Tenute Rubino produces exceptional wines from Puglia’s other native varieties, including Primitivo and Negroamaro, all crafted to showcase the unique terroir of the region. Our wines are characterized by their authenticity, complexity, and respect for tradition, offering a true taste of Salento. From fresh and vibrant reds to elegant, full-bodied whites, each wine is a testament to the dedication of the Rubino family and their unwavering commitment to producing high-quality, sustainable wines.

Wonderful experience
My wife and I had already participated in several guided winery tours with tastings, but this was by far the most interesting, allowing us to observe and understand the entire production process. We thank Jasmine very much for guiding us and for putting up with two "pesky" children. The final tasting allowed us to taste 4 different wines, some of which we later bought.
