Domaine Haut-Lirou
Sobre la bodega y los vinos
A family wine estate since 1848, Haut-Lirou, located 300 m above sea level on the slopes of Pic Saint-Loup, in the heart of the Hérault department (34), above the Lirou river, is today one of the largest in the appellation and extends over 110 hectares of vines for which it was originally necessary to clear and crush blocks of stone.
This vineyard inspires an art of living that the wines of the estate, made from emblematic grape varieties of the region such as Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Carignan, translate to each vintage. To obtain such nectars, Haut-Lirou carries out traditional and reasoned viticulture: pruning, short to contain yields, soil aeration, leaf stripping, trellising, natural manure. At Domaine Haut Lirou, the grapes are harvested by hand and carefully sorted to guarantee the quality of the harvest. The grape varieties are vinified in separate vats, enclosure by enclosure, and the aging, for 12 to 16 months, is carried out in French barrels.
Nestled in the heart of the garrigue, our vines are truly integrated into nature : trees surround the plots, large spaces are left to evolve freely, grassy strips serve as a buffer with the ditches and waterways, nesting boxes for birds, beehives for bees and shelters for bats are installed on the various estates.
Our unique terroir, scattered in the garrigue in 50 enclosures, on hard limestone terraces and on clay-limestone, marl and basalt soils, gives our wines great richness and exceptional aromatic complexity. The wines of the Haut-Lirou estate are renowned for their elegance and finesse. Red wines are characterized by aromas of red and black fruits, spices and woody notes, while white wines have aromas of exotic fruits and white flowers.
