"Essence" escape: 1 night at Costa Catterina in Roero

Spend one night at Costa Catterina Wine & Room in Castagnito, in the heart of Roero, surrounded by the vineyards of the family estate and within easy reach of Alba and the Langhe. Here accommodation and wine production share the same setting, making the stay a natural introduction to this part of Piedmont.

The agriturismo has just three double rooms, Barbera, Arneis and Nebbiolo, each named after wines and grapes connected with the estate. Every room has its own balcony, giving you time to enjoy the quiet vineyard surroundings before or after your wine experience.

Included in the stay is a guided visit with a member of the family or the team guiding you thru the Costa Catterina winery and a tasting of estate wines, included Barolo DOCG  The tasting  introduces the different sides of the producer’s range, which moves from the white and sparkling wines of Roero to the more structured reds of Piedmont.

Among the estate’s wines, Roero Arneis “Arsivel” DOCG is a fresh white wine made from Arneis grown close to the winery, while Roero Arneis “Ma Brut” DOCG shows the same grape as a sparkling wine, produced with the Charmat method. The red side of the range includes wines based on Nebbiolo, together with Barbera d’Alba Superiore DOC and Langhe Dolcetto DOC. The additional Barolo DOCG, made from Nebbiolo, brings a deeper and more structured expression of one of Piedmont’s most important red wines into the tasting.

The rest of the stay is deliberately flexible. From Castagnito, you can explore Roero and the Langhe, visit Alba, drive through vineyard villages, follow routes between castles and panoramic viewpoints, or spend more time visiting wineries in the surrounding hills. The area also offers cycling, Vespa excursions and truffle-related activities, making Costa Catterina a useful base for a short wine escape rather than simply a place to spend the night.
