Lovely winery giving informative personal tours

6/1/23
Eight friends visited the Apollonio winery a short taxi ride from Lecce. We were welcolmed by Georgia (spelling correct?) who gave us a well informed friendly tour of the winery. We then tasted three wines, with descriptions, of which the Negromaro was sublime.
Overall the tour was really good and friendly and well worth the cost.

Apollonio a great Winery in Salento

9/1/17
The Apollonio winery is one of the most representative and ancient winery of Salento being founded in 1870. It is located in Monteroni, a town 5 km from the capital of Lecce. The company produces excellent red wines that are imported all over the world. A wine from this company told us that it was tasted by President Obama on his visit to Italy. Among the wines produced the most famous is the red wine Divoto Copertino DOC. An elegant, full-bodied, structured wine. Produced from 70% negroamaro and 30% montepulciano grapes, it has a very intense ruby red color with garnet reflections and is persistent and tannic in the mouth. The winery are available for tastings and a visit the barrel cellar. If you are in Salento you must visit this winery.
18 Fanali is the rosé wine chosen by the 3 Michelin star Chef Massimo Bottura for the dinner prepared for the president of USA Obama. 18 Fanali is a rosé made from negroamaro grapes made to age for 12 months in acacia barrels and 6 months in bottle. A rosé of great structure that will amaze for its perfumes and its softness.

Soddisfatto!!

About Winery and Wines

Great passions are often sparked by little seeds. The history of Apollonio winery dates back to 1870, in the aftermath of the Italian unification. It was in the south of the Salento region – where most people made a living out of wine – that the story of Apollonio’s family began; such has succeeded in exporting Salento’s high-quality wine tradition all over the world thanks to its passion and hard work.

In the warm and generous Salento region, Apollonio’s sun-kissed vineyards give their sweet, must-scented fruits according to the rhythm of nature, marked by lunar cycles. In the wine cellar located at the winery in Monteroni, red grapes – once gathered and selected – are fermented at a controlled temperature in Slavonian oak vats. Traditional wines are usually aged for 6 to 12 months; large reserve wines, tapered for 24 to 72 months. Later, the wines are bottled without being filtrated, chilled or pasteurized. It takes time for these wines to become unique, recognizable, unmistakable: before putting them on the market, the bottled wines are aged further in 220-litre oak barrels for 6-12 months, in order to provide better micro-oxygenation. Apollonio’s winery caters to every single step of wine production, from grape gathering to winemaking, ageing and bottling. Its technology includes automatic presses for soft pressing, and different types of winemaking machines. Fermentation is carried out in steel tanks at a controlled temperature. Steel or large oak casks are used for ageing the wine, while barriques are used for special wine types. Only guaranteed natural corks from Sardinia and Portugal are used for bottling. The winery is equipped with a new innovative bottling line, which has a production capacity of about 8,000 bottles per hour.
