About Winery and Wines
Founded in 1985 by Luigi Padroggi, La Piotta winery is a family-run estate with deep roots in the world of winemaking, passed down through generations. The Padroggi family has been dedicated to viticulture for decades, cultivating their vineyards in the Oltrepò Pavese region. With an average age of around 30 years, their vineyards produce white wines known for their intense and persistent aromas, as well as full-bodied red wines. Notably, nine rows of Pinot Grigio vines planted in 1930 still thrive, a testament to the family’s love for tradition and respect for the land. Now, the third generation, represented by Enrico and Luca, works alongside their fathers, bringing new ideas and a fresh vision while maintaining the craftsmanship and traditions initiated by their grandfather.
La Piotta is particularly known for its expertise with Pinot Noir, producing wines using a variety of vinification methods, including Charmat, Classic Method, Rosé, and Red Vinification. Each step of the winemaking process is done in-house, ensuring the highest quality. Beyond Pinot Noir, the winery also produces Riesling, Bonarda, and Barbera under the "89/90" line, representing the new generation's approach to winemaking. These wines are rooted in tradition but embrace constant experimentation, reflecting the uniqueness of each vintage and the rich terroir of the Oltrepò Pavese. The winery's philosophy is to push boundaries while respecting the legacy of its soils and family heritage.
