About Winery and Wines
Mortellito began its journey of authentic winemaking in 2016, rooted in a deep respect for the land and a commitment to organic farming. What started as a 2-hectare plot where our grandfather lived in the early 20th century has now grown into a 23-hectare vineyard, stretching across the districts of Mortellito, Bufalemi, and Maccari, all near the sea. Located just a few kilometers from Vendicari Riserva, Marzamemi, and the southernmost beaches of Sicily and Europe, our vineyards are nestled among olive and almond trees, embodying the rich Mediterranean spirit. We cultivate flagship Sicilian grapes—Nero d’Avola, Moscato di Noto, Frappato, and Grillo—using the bush vine (gobelet) system. We emphasize a natural approach, hand-harvesting grapes without machinery to ensure quality, while respecting the environment by avoiding pesticides and chemical fertilizers.
Mortellito produces wines that are a pure expression of their Mediterranean terroir. Our grapes, grown just 1.5 km from the sea and at an elevation of 40 meters, are influenced by the fresh coastal air, creating wines with distinctive character. Our selection includes:
CALA IANCU – A crisp blend of 90% Grillo and 10% Catarratto, showcasing vibrant acidity and refreshing minerality.
VIARIA – Made from 100% Moscato di Noto vinified dry, this wine reveals delicate floral aromas and a surprising complexity.
CALA NIURO – A blend of 80% Frappato and 20% Nero d’Avola, offering a light and fragrant profile with soft tannins and vibrant fruit flavors.
TUTTU – Featuring 75% Nero d’Avola and a mix of other indigenous grapes, this wine is full-bodied, earthy, and truly embodies the essence of Sicilian winemaking.
Our wines are crafted with minimal intervention, allowing the unique qualities of our land to shine through in every bottle.
