Cantina Montenigo

Winery in Valpolicella, Amarone, Valpantena

About the Winery

Nestled just minutes from the heart of Verona, Montenigo is a biodynamic winery where passion, tradition, and respect for nature come together in every bottle. Founded in 2015 by Rudi Roncari, Montenigo was born from a dream—to create an authentic and welcoming place where wine lovers can experience wines crafted with utmost care and dedication. Today, the Roncari family—Rudi, his wife Laura, and their children Giovanni and Elisa—personally welcome visitors, sharing their story and philosophy.

At Montenigo, every step of the winemaking process reflects the deep bond with the land. The small yet charming cellar is a true expression of this commitment, featuring terracotta amphorae and large oak vats, essential for their unique vinification approach. It’s not uncommon to find Rudi on his tractor tending the vineyards, Giovanni refining wines in the cellar, while Elisa and Laura guide guests through an intimate tour and tasting experience. Montenigo is more than just a winery—it’s a journey into the heart of biodynamic viticulture, where each visit unveils the true essence of Valpolicella’s winemaking heritage.

About the Wines

Montenigo’s wines embody the spirit of biodynamic and organic viticulture, crafted with a deep respect for nature. The winery’s selection offers a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation, bringing forth the essence of Valpolicella and beyond.

The Traditional Line includes the classic wines of Valpolicella, such as Amarone, Superiore, Ripasso, Valpolicella, and Recioto, each showcasing the elegance and complexity of the region’s indigenous varieties. Montenigo also explores creative expressions with its "Fantasia" wines, including a still white and a re-fermented wine made from red Corvina grapes vinified in white, a vibrant rosé crafted from the aromatic Molinara grape, and a light yet flavorful red blend of Corvina and Rondinella, perfect for warm seasons.

A must-try is Montenigo’s Metodo Classico, aged in terracotta amphorae, offering a distinctive take on sparkling winemaking. Lastly, for sweet wine enthusiasts, the winery produces not only the traditional Recioto della Valpolicella but also a luscious white Passito made from Garganega grapes, naturally dried for nearly six months to enhance its rich, complex flavors.
