Podere Paganini
About the Winery
Podere Paganini was founded in 2010 through the revival of our family’s historic vineyards, nestled in the heart of Val Trebbia, near the village of Travo. From the very beginning, we have embraced organic farming, combining deep respect for the land with innovative tools such as advanced weather monitoring systems developed in collaboration with the Catholic University of Piacenza. Here, tradition and innovation come together naturally in everything we do.
Our story begins in the 1970s, when Giuseppe, known as “Pinè,” left his career in the fashion world in Geneva to return to his homeland. Driven by creativity and a tireless passion, he started cultivating vines, passing on to our family a love for this land and the values of authenticity and dedication. Today, we proudly carry his dream forward, bringing new life to our vineyards.
Visiting Podere Paganini means discovering more than just wine. Our labels reflect who we are: a circle symbolizing harmony and unity, crossed by rays representing each member of our family. For us, wine is about sharing, balance, and a genuine connection to our territory.
About the Wines
The grape varieties grown on our estate say a great deal about who we are. Our deep connection to the land is expressed through the cultivation of native grapes from our valley—Ortrugo, Malvasia, Moscato, Sauvignon, Trebbiano, Barbera, Bonarda, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Alongside these, we also grow internationally renowned varieties such as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, reflecting our openness to new horizons.
From these grapes come our wines, each with its own story and distinctive character.
A tribute to our land is Pinè, a traditional method sparkling wine made from five native white grapes of Val Trebbia (Ortrugo, Malvasia, Moscato, Sauvignon, and Trebbiano). It is dedicated to the pioneer of our family, Pinè, who left his work as a fabric cutter in Geneva’s high-fashion houses to return to Italy and become a farmer, restoring the village where our winery now stands. Aged for 36 months on the lees, it is fresh and elegant, perfect from aperitif through the entire meal, and available in both Pas Dosé and Brut styles.
Sàss ad Löina is a traditional method sparkling Ortrugo Colli Piacentini DOC, made from a grape variety unique to the province of Piacenza. It is ideal from aperitif to full meal. The vineyard where our Ortrugo grows is rich in sedimentary rocks containing various fossils, locally known as “Sassi di Luna” (moon stones), from which the wine takes its name.
The rich food and wine tradition of Emilia is reflected in Quattrocento, a lightly sparkling red Colli Piacentini DOC Barbera. Fermented in stainless steel and refermented in autoclave, it pairs beautifully with appetizers, cured meats, cheeses, pasta dishes, and white meats. Its name refers to the 400-meter altitude of the vineyard in Val Trebbia, a simple way to connect the wine to its territory.
Another expression of Barbera is Ninfa, a still Colli Piacentini DOC wine, fermented in stainless steel and aged in fiveth- to sixth-use barriques. It pairs well with pasta dishes, red and white meats, and cheeses. Its deep red color recalls the Corbezzolo tree overlooking the vineyard, which hosts the striking butterfly known as the “Ninfa del Corbezzolo.”
Perduca is a still Colli Piacentini DOC Cabernet Sauvignon, fermented in stainless steel and aged in fiveth- to sixth-use barriques. It is suitable for aperitifs, first courses, red and white meats, and cheeses. This wine pays tribute to Pietra Perduca, a striking ophiolitic rock formation in our area, symbolizing our strong bond with the land.
Our red wine collection concludes with Acquarosa, made from overripe Bonarda grapes, fermented in stainless steel and aged in barriques. Ideal with cheeses, dry pastries, or as a meditation wine. It is dedicated to the oldest tree on the estate, the Acquarosa pear tree, an ancient and now rare variety.
Our latest label is Bois, a still white Colli Piacentini DOC Chardonnay. On this steep, stony hillside protected by woodland, Chardonnay develops a strong connection with the clay-limestone soil, rich in calcium and full of pebbles. This wine represents our openness to new influences while remaining firmly rooted in our traditions. We chose the French word BOIS for its multiple meanings: “woods,” like the forest surrounding the vineyard; “wood,” recalling the barrels used for aging; and “to drink,” an invitation to taste our wine.
