Poderi Boscarelli

Winery in Montepulciano, Val d'Orcia, Valdichiana

About the Winery

The story began in 1962 with founder Egidio Corradi’s dream of producing a noble wine that exalts the aromas and flavors of his native land while imparting the elegance he loved. Born into an old Poliziana family in the Montepulciano region of the Siena countryside, he later graduated with a degree in economics and business. He spent most of his life working as an international broker in Genoa and Milan. But his infinite passion for wine and deep knowledge of his home region induced him to buy two semi-abandoned small farms in Cervognano of Montepulciano, a stunning corner of old Etruscan Tuscany. The ancient soils had long been cultivated in the traditional way with different annual crops and small vineyards. Egidio’s dream and vision were embraced and invigorated by his daughter Paola and her husband Ippolito De Ferrari. Driven by their strong determination and dedication, they started Poderi Boscarelli in the ’60s. The development that followed brought renewed life to the age-old farming estate as Paola and Ippolito planted their first specialized vineyards at a density of 3,500 plants per hectare. They also built the first winery by renovating and adapting old stables. The original spirit of the estate has now passed to the third generation of the family. Each day Luca and Nicolò De Ferrari, sons of Paola and Ippolito, bring that same passion to wine production as they work to infuse each bottle with the aromas and flavors that Grandpa Egidio loved and searched for. Luca and Nicolò reselect and replant vineyards that continue to express the scents and range of characteristics of the incredible land that nurtures them.

Wonderful family run winery experience
Giovanni was our host and did a great job explaining the vineyards, aging and storage process. Out tasting was in a fabulous setting amongst oak barrels with a wide variety of the wines from the vineyards. Highly recommended.

A beautiful and educational experience
Staff very down-to-earth but at the same time professional and welcoming.
In my case in particular, they were also flexible as I had asked the day before to change the visit time from what was planned.
As for the location, the estate is nestled in the heart of Val d'Orcia, 10 minutes from Montepulciano, which says it all (especially on a beautiful autumn day).
As for the wines, we tasted five (if I'm not mistaken) different glasses of Montepulciano in a cozy room created in the cellars, accompanied by delicious taralli.
Table service with attention to detail and very knowledgeable and engaging staff in the description of the wines tasted.
I particularly appreciated the "extra" tips regarding "food-wine" pairings that the staff kindly suggested to us.
Excellent wines and bottles available at the shop with an excellent quality-price ratio.
I would suggest dedicating some time to a walk through the vineyards accompanied by explanations and, if possible, including a slightly more aged (or, so to speak, more "prestigious") glass than the others in the tasting to enrich the experience and perhaps even surprise more demanding customers.

Great wine tour at Boscarelli winery
I have done many wine tours and to be honest this was the best. We visited the winery on Sunday afternoon and every step how they produce wine was described with pride, knowledge and passion. We had a lot of questions and all was explained very well. Due to this the tour took including tasting almost 2 hours and this was a wonderful afternoon. With the tasting we also bought some bottles to drink at home. If you want to visit a winery in Montepulciano area this is the one to go to. The wine is also very good.

Excellent wines
I visited 4 wineries in a few days.
The best experience was at Poderi Boscarelli.
I tasted 5 excellent products, one better than the other.
Among the 5 I really appreciated the Nobile di Montepulciano, the Nobile Riserva “Sottocasa” and the Vin Santo “Occhio di Pernice”.

Day at Boscarelli
We had such a wonderful visit at Boscarelli vineyard! Our host was Giovanni and he was wonderful! He gave us a lot of insight into vineyards and the process of creating great wines. We had a wonderful tour and then were fortunate enough to have a light lunch in the family home. It was all so welcoming and lovely and the wine superb! Would highly recommend this vineyard to those visiting Montalcino.
