The story began in 1962 with founder Egidio Corradi’s dream of producing a noble wine that exalts the aromas and flavors of his native land while imparting the elegance he loved. Born into an old Poliziana family in the Montepulciano region of the Siena countryside, he later graduated with a degree in economics and business. He spent most of his life working as an international broker in Genoa and Milan. But his infinite passion for wine and deep knowledge of his home region induced him to buy two semi-abandoned small farms in Cervognano of Montepulciano, a stunning corner of old Etruscan Tuscany. The ancient soils had long been cultivated in the traditional way with different annual crops and small vineyards. Egidio’s dream and vision were embraced and invigorated by his daughter Paola and her husband Ippolito De Ferrari. Driven by their strong determination and dedication, they started Poderi Boscarelli in the ’60s. The development that followed brought renewed life to the age-old farming estate as Paola and Ippolito planted their first specialized vineyards at a density of 3,500 plants per hectare. They also built the first winery by renovating and adapting old stables. The original spirit of the estate has now passed to the third generation of the family. Each day Luca and Nicolò De Ferrari, sons of Paola and Ippolito, bring that same passion to wine production as they work to infuse each bottle with the aromas and flavors that Grandpa Egidio loved and searched for. Luca and Nicolò reselect and replant vineyards that continue to express the scents and range of characteristics of the incredible land that nurtures them.

At the highest altitudes of the Montepulciano's countryside, we cultivate just over 4 hectares of vineyards, arranged in 2 vineyards, where many different soils coexist in harmony. Here the vines, thanks to the symbiosis between the terroir of each plot and the plant, live in perfect balance. We believe that biodynamics, when practiced with common sense and with positive intentions, is the best possible compromise for tomorrow’s agriculture. Not only that, but it is also the way to pursue environmental sustainability and maintain the classic Tuscan landscape. Biodiversity is also an important factor for us, because it allows us to achieve a balance in the environment, in nature and in the relationship between humans, plants and animals; so that in this harmony, even the vines become capable of counteracting adversity.

The watermill “Il Molinaccio” was already present in the old maps of the Granduchy of Tuscany. In 2012 Alessandro and Marco jointly decided to passionately upgrade the original building in a luxury resort and to start the adventure to develop a wine to be proud of. Il Molinaccio is by and far its 3.6 ha vineyard ( 90% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot, and other local varieties) whose high quality grapes are used for Il Golo, Rosso di Montepulciano DOC, for La Spinosa, our Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG, La Poiana, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva DOCG, aged at least 12 months in French Allier oak 25HL casks and for L’Allocco, IGT Toscana, an exquisite blend between our Sangiovese and our Merlot. We have produced a special edition of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva 2017 vintage that we named La Duemiladiciassette, aged in a 10HL French Allier cask. Our marc (nothing else!) is distilled into Il Molinaccio, Grappa di Vino Nobile Riserva aged in barrique for two years, by the prestigious Nannoni distilleries. We are an organic farm and all our wines from vintage 2017 ( Riserva) and 2018 (Nobile and Rosso)  are organic. We installed a photovoltaic plant that covers a large part of our energy needs and we purify the water of our well, making us self-sufficient. We offer free recharge to our guests for their electric bikes & car.

More information on Montepulciano

If your ideal trip includes plenty of wine tastings and winery visits in one of the most quintessential Italian sceneries, Montepulciano is the place for you. This beautiful medieval town is located in the south of Tuscany, perched on the top of one of the sunny hills that characterize the landscape, surrounded by hectares of vineyards. Furthermore, Montepulciano's unique layout, characterized by a difference in height of about 60 meters, allowed the construction of the town's historical underground cellars, dug into the tuff rock the town lies on. Thanks to its strategic positioning, Montepulciano is a great starting point for your Tuscan wine tour, allowing you to easily reach other locations of interest such as Pienza, Siena, Val d'Orcia or Val di Chiana.

Montepulciano's secular winemaking tradition, stunning landscapes and rich historical background make it the ideal location for travelers who want to combine wine tastings and winery visits with some more traditional sightseeing. Montepulciano's Vino Nobile was one of the first wines in Italy to obtain the DOC (controlled designation of origin) recognition and in 1980 it was the first Italian wine to achieve further recognition, DOCG (controlled and guaranteed designation of origin). Other typical wines of the area are: Rosso di Montepulciano DOC, Bianco Vergine della Valdichiana DOC, Chianti Colli Senesi DOC and Vin Santo DOC.
